agressive zerg players (535 reads, 17 replies)
okay, for a while now to learn the game better i have been a more passvie zerg player, but i want to know learn to be more agressive, is there certain playres that are more agressve than others and if so could you leave there names, i know that most koreans are agresive but if you could highlight the BEST ones that would be appreciated, i know that savior back in 06 was very agressive doing new builds that were all in a risky but still constanty pounding then and july for his muta micro igonring a few turrents to kill 3-6 scv's

also if i try to be more agressive could this set me back in terms of consistantly winning vs people that are i should/could beat if i went more passive, just because i am not 100% sure and the builds are more timing effective?

thx in advance

You can be more aggressive to increase your learning curve, in other words prepare for a deep fall. After changing your style back and forth you might be better than before e.g. you might lose a weakness that you have right now, so it's definitely worth a try.
On the other hand after a few months of practice you might feel more comfortable with your new style so that you don't even want to go back. Anything's possible.
I'd say just do it, why not? In the worst case you go through a month of shit, learning a few lessons and you're more confident in your old style when it works better.

To be agressive you need to have UBER macro, build less sunkens, have sick timing etc,if you dont have that, dont even try it cuz you will be owned VERY hard.If you want to learn some from pros watch some vods of Kwanro,Jaedong they play VERY agressive.

I definately agree with Kwanro. He's probably the most aggressive zerg player out there right now and that's one of the reasons he's my favorite player.

Just check out some of his games especially vs Terran players. A lot of the time he just goes for lings and mutas and finish the games with just that. If he sees an opportunity to run in with just a lot of lings he will do it. Sometimes his aggressiveness works against him though as he isn't always very good at adapting but when he wins he just looks absolutely amazing doing it.

Check out these crazy games on youtube:
Kwanro vs Midas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfXRDSo0M-0 (some of the most scary micro i've ever seen)
Kwanro vs Light: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfoZ6aZCRa0 (more crazy micro)
Kwanro vs Nada: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLGvAnKpEZI (how to punish a terran for fast expanding)
Kwanro vs Sea.Really: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5PonVaahTQ (how to fend off a bunker rush)

Let me know what you think of these games if you watch any of them.

I think first you should just try it a few times on your own because then you have something that you can compare with other aggressive gamers like Kwanro and Jaedong but you also know exactly what weaknesses and strengths you have and you know what stuff you prefer. Savior did aggressive builds too, he wasn't very successful in tv games (he's now focusing on timing attacks rather than pure aggressiveness or massing) but you're not on progaming level so you can still learn from him.
I think it's just important that you don't completely forget about your old style you know, after all it brought you were you are now (idk your rank but still). I think practicing one style for a week or two and then switching might be good. That way you can improve both styles because your experience with them benefits from each other (idk how to say it better in english).

I hope you'll enjoy it!

Oh and July is a good example of course, too. He's more into timing but that only makes his style even more dangerous because you never know if he's going for a macro battle or not.

after watching those kwanro vods especially the first one mentioned "some of the most scary micro" rofl he RARELY micros his mutas, just good timing with his attacks and decent LING micro. his muta micro was kinda nasty vs Midas i unno what to say im not impressed.

Edit: also like to add the only reason it looked so brutal vs midas was because of the ling attack at the start, midas should of had 1 medic 1 bat not 2 medics and he lacked stim. At this point it was over.

About the Kwanro vs Midas game.
Yeah, I agree that timing was a big part of why his attacks was so successful, but then again, timing is probably one of the most important factors in SC. I also agree about his muta micro being kinda sloppy in the beginning, even though it improved significantly a minute later. But I still think for example Jaedong has better micro with his mutas but it's just that Kwanro is so gutsy and relentless with his attacks. He dares do stuff which other progamers don't. He's just fearless. A lot of the time it works out, but sometimes it doesn't

He just does small things that is not very easy to see sometimes. Like moving just 2-3 lings in a different direction than the rest of the group. Or moving back a couple of lings slightly. May not sound like a big deal but it makes a huge difference! And Kwanro is known for his ling micro, not his muta micro so much.
