Simple steps.. A Router only accept forwarded connections.. So you simply open the ports you want to allow and they get past.. Making a game on BNET anyone can do.. But when someone want to connect the Router denies access causing "high latency" which simply means NO CONNECTION (time-out)

okay, i have problems with my router. i swear ive had like at least 5 people individually try and help me and it all comes down to the same thing. im not very good with computers >.<. so i know i have to open my ports but i have an unusual router (siemens speedstream 4200) and dont know how to access the area in order to do so.

If you, yourself want to host Starcraft games on b.net; open 6112. If you and your buddy want to play on a shared connection, in a game with other people, you'll need a beer...

The problem with the Starcraft networking is a bit deeper than just opening ports... 2 people behind NAT (Network Address Translation) cannot play in the same battle.net games (with other people) without serious latency (your client refreshes every second or so). 1 on 1 games work fine and playing 2 seperate games works. The easiest solution is to grab another IP address from your ISP (usually as simple as moving your "Internet" cable on your wireless router from the "Internet jack" to a regular jack (that has no firewall, etc). The second easiest solution is using your neighbors wireless : )

I don't know the exact nature of this problem but I believe it deals with application-layer encoding. My theory (after dumping raw packets for a few hours) is that Starcraft stores the public IP address of each b.net client before the game starts; so as they players start the game each client has the addresses of all of the "peers" but the clients on the LAN have their packets readdressed before the NAT can take care of it (the 1-second screen refreshes would be sheer coincidence - perhaps even collision avoidance behind the NAT).

Note that all client-server networking works fine with NAT because the router handles both SNAT and DNAT. Peer-to-peer networking is the problem and solutions are tricky (peers behind the NAT must know each others port number and private IP, while peers in-front of the NAT can address packets normally (letting the router handle the SNAT). Copying all starcraft packets to all computers behind the NAT may work (I've heard that each starcraft client handles extra packets ok). Unfortunately you can't just SNAT to your broadcast because the client dumps those pretty quick /: ( The bottom line is that unless your buddies love hacking network firewalls to bits (iptables -t nat | less anyone?) you better get another IP address.
