Dear Phoniexrisen,

When arguing it is wise to avoid being personal with those who dispute the subject with you.

"the chess analogy its just way too over your head"

Are we discussing the problem here or just throwing insults at each other to further fill up a paragraph ?

I don't usually spend this much time arguing over something we have no power to change but your skill in the english language and the points you have made so far will make up for a good dispute so let's get started.

"Learning to do half of macro will not do much for you in other life pursuits "

Your basic problem is that you analyze this game as something which should serve other purposes than that of relaxing and having a good time. Of course you cannot use most skills you learn in a game in real life. The main advantage of a game is that you can do things you could not in life, so your point here is senseless.

"Real wars are fought by generals"

Are serious that this is an argument? You have to travel so far as chess, generals etc to prove a simple point. How come you cannot look behind a matter and do some research. For example looking at the biography of Dustin Browder (Lead designer of SC) and trying to search for tangible evidence for these changes in gamepley. Anyone can come up with examples and arguments which are irrelevant. To have a strong argument however, you need to stay on the grounds of reality and do your research.

Even if it was relevant then what? The developers will probably look for gameplay changes in the gaming industry where they have at least a chance of finding anything. Or do you think they contacted the US military for advice? You point is again irrelevant.

"pushing buttons faster the pros know the game but if you really look at the top players even , what some incorectly call genius is not real all that much strategicaly its just being able to succesfully get your units to be able to do what you want them to"

This is almost the best part :) Starcraft nowadays can be considered a sport. The players will try to achieve proficiency in every aspect of it be it unit movement, strategic thinking or pushing buttons, because these MAKE UP THE GAMEPLAY. Being fast in Starcraft is like being fast in foot-ball, will you criticise a foot-ball team because its players run faster than those of the other team? The team in a great condition will often beat the other team even if the other team features players with greater strategic thinking or shooting skills. This is exactly the case with SC. So your claim that this part is "just" pushing buttons is yet again a faulty one.

"all i am really saying it is such a waste of time and human potetional to get where you are in top tier of guys who can hotkey worker every 14 secs then hokey base put him on minerals. This needs to change its such a useless outdated skill."

You are not in a position to tell anyone what is outdated or not. Think carefully, Warcraft 3 is a good game but not half as much competitive as Starcaft. SC has been going strong for ten years and there is no real sign it slowing down, the progaming scene is continually filling up with new players. Where will WC3 be in 10 years or 20 years ? Sorry to say that you have the nerve to act as if you are a master game editor. Have you ever considered that SC was created by geniouses?

If you weren't so infatuated with your irrelevant examples with the military, chess, princes and princesses you would probably take a look at how the gaming industry works in reality. If you want a game which will be alive for years you need professional multiplayer. This what they realized at ID soft when developing the third sequel of Quake, this is what realized at Epic games and created Unreal tornament and finally this is what many people on the world realised with the exception of you!

Can't you see that multiplayer equals competition, competiton carries inherently the fact that players will do everything to develop further.

Never have a competitive game been so successful as Starcraft, meaning the game mechanics in there are the most professional you can get. You talk about being outdated? Blizzard can update Sc with patches, just like the rally point can be set now by right-clicking.....a simple patch can do it. Do you think it is not within their power to issue a patch that would allow automining and mbs????? They do not issue this patch BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WANT TO, not because SC is outdated. How can you not understand that ?

This time the argument you used (outdated) is not even true or relevant to SC.......

I just highlighted in a few points that what you have written here is nothing more than empty words without real, solid evidence behind them. Now if you can let go chess, the military and other irrelevant topics I can tell you what I have learned while constructing a video about mbs and automining. I took the time to do a little research in order to use real arguments not just a bunch of words.

Reasons.

1. Lead Designer Dustin Browder : he has worked titles like C&C Read Alert 2, c&C Generals and was game design director for the Lord of The Rings series. These games feature neither micro nor real macro. The trademard of C&C is the right-side menu with which you can easily and quickly create units. No wonder then that this guy makes efforts to somehow make unit production easier.

2. Casual gamers. This is self explanatory, every game development company tries to reach out further and further and grasp as much audience as it can. Because of guys like you this might work, they may sell more. In the long run however, they will realize the the lifespan of such a game with less competition is is very short.

There may be other reasons for the automatization and autommining I just put here two. Next time if you are considering to make a thread about such a thing it would be wise for you to find solid evidence because talking about chess, foot-ball, military generals is nice but quite immaterial.

And one more thing just quickly :)

"why the new interface will help the game"

Even the title of the thread is misleading because mbs and automining are not "new interfaces" Heck, they have nothing to do with the interface but with game-mechanics.....

#41 well, he has a life now, he's married and works just like almost everyone else after 30
yes, back in the day he played a lot. But the point is he required much less effort to get to the top. After 3 days he was good, after 2 weeks he was excellent in any game he tried. Gifted man with lots of insight and ease of 'exploiting' game mechanics.

Because WC3 is less focussed on macro, players (when they are not attacking their opponents) are doing "neutral" things like creeping and collecting items.

Considering Starcraft has no creeps, heroes or items, then I expect there to be a big emphasis on macro. When you only have two resources (minerals and gas) that do not require a lot of effort to collect, then I don't see how the game could fill the time when you are not fighting your opponent with advanced user interface. So I think the user interface should be decent enough to allow modern gamers to pick it up with ease, but still not allow players to skip too many actions.

I do not support automining, or the idle peasant button, but I do support things like the 25+ grouping of units and grouping of buildings.

And besides, the majority of the reason as to why Blizzard wants to put in this advanced user interface is to help noobs, but these noobs who play offline would not really care if there is no automining or idle peasant buttons. And remember, I am sure there are some people who are going to buy Starcraft II and let it be the first game or strategy game they ever played. When I played my first startegy game in 2004, Age of Empires, I did not mind the lack of advanced user interface, but when I played Age of Empires III and returned to play Age of Empires one day, I found it very hard to get a grip over it.

And how about making it so that their is an option which allows players to choose between advanced and decent user interface, but online games that count towards the score/rank of the player must be played in decent user interface.

I just think, that Starcraft II must not go too far with user interface, as speed still takes skill.

Completely agree with you Daflame. A compromise could easily be reached by simply implementing a switch. As a beginnner one may use the easier mode, as he goes online and has more experience he could switch to "pro" mode. Blizzard would appeal to hard-core fans of the franchise while making sure that those who are new to SC2 will have a pleasant experience...

BLIZZARD, ARE YOU LISTENING???? WE WANT THAT SWITCH!!!

szedrus that was like a big pie , a lot of filler very little substance nutrionally or in your case you missed the whole point , maybe i was wrong in doing so but i got off topic and you didnt even seem to notice . seems you are the one who needs to work on your english . I will write and speak english better then you ever could hope to one day because I am an American , born in the great nation of the United States. Hmmm........ your english is fine but apparently there is trouble with your text comprehension. Please show me where I criticised your english because as far as I remember I complemented you on it, thinking you are from Norway (as your little flag states).

My big pie of nothing at least featured some tangible arguments......

Be proud that you are an american and you can speak English quite well and I will be proud that I am Hungarian and I can speak Hungarian (a language that is usually beyond the skills of people of english speaking countries) and English.

I'm also a bit concerned since your "great" country does not have the first idea what Hungary is :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANTDkfkoBaI

"I thought Europe is a country"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJuNgBkloFE

Now I know that these are extreme examples, but they do exist.

Here is a link if you are interested in Hungary a bit:

Maybe its because your little country has done very little if anything in the world . I could be wrong maybe you could give examples . Didnt you guys get taken over by the nazis in ww 2 or need saving , you are far from a superpower and probably will never be one. I would thank you on the english compliment but speaking english is about as difficult as sneezing , i do it , dont think about it .

ANd I still feel you totally missed the point . Give a big speech for nonthing , i can give several points on which individual is my favourite garbage man but im not gonna take the time , informative points or not .

So the american has spoken. Congratualtions! Being superpower is everything.

Our country was founded in 896. This basically means that when we were writing the history of europe you weren't even a thought.

Yes you are a superpower, a superpower without a history and don't even go calling the civil war history when europe was the field of such battles at the time that your little civil war would look like a bar brawl.

Have you heard of Newmann János? Inventor of cumputers Maybe Teller Ede? Hydrogen bomb (yes, he was working in your Oppenheimer project)
Should I tell you of Fonó Albert? The jet engine? Volkswagen bug designed by Berényi Béla.

Be proud of your Ford-T model because it was DESIGNED BY GALAMBOS JÓZSEF!
We came up with the helicopter, the ballpoint-pen etc.......The list is endless, type in google hungarian inventions and you will be taken aback Mr Superpower.

We have been around a thousand years, we have a history, you have nothing. Superpower ? Butchering natives then taking their lands, then the a-bomb, then Vietnam, then Iraq.

You have a terrifyingly good consitution keeping together your nation whose people are so stupid they don't even realize what is happening around them. Everywhere in the world, american people are being regarded as stupid, ponder upon that, then be proud.

This is quite off-topic, I will not say another world here, be happy with your consumer interface and your consumer life, where a country is judged on basis of its superpower status no by its achievements.... You are truly an american!

Here is your superpower :

#0 nice points

but the whole push buttons faster thing you got wrong. Once you push buttons fast, then there is a whole bunch of strategy, many many decisions split second decisions, and some people like being fully immersed in the game, interacting with it fully not just watching the screen.

I don't want to use 10 seconds of time to make a decision, that is called a boring ass game. Starcraft is strategy, not just pushing buttons. Everything you do is strategy, build this unit a second later or sooner, halt scv production go full blast scv production. Players should have full control of the game. Automation is retardation

Play SC if you want swiftness AND strategy.

And stop the damn whining already. SC is perfect as it is.
