Dear Phoniexrisen,
When arguing it is wise to avoid being personal with those who dispute the subject with you.
"the chess analogy its just way too over your head"
Are we discussing the problem here or just throwing insults at each other to further fill up a paragraph ?
I don't usually spend this much time arguing over something we have no power to change but your skill in the english language and the points you have made so far will make up for a good dispute so let's get started.
"Learning to do half of macro will not do much for you in other life pursuits "
Your basic problem is that you analyze this game as something which should serve other purposes than that of relaxing and having a good time. Of course you cannot use most skills you learn in a game in real life. The main advantage of a game is that you can do things you could not in life, so your point here is senseless.
"Real wars are fought by generals"
Are serious that this is an argument? You have to travel so far as chess, generals etc to prove a simple point. How come you cannot look behind a matter and do some research. For example looking at the biography of Dustin Browder (Lead designer of SC) and trying to search for tangible evidence for these changes in gamepley. Anyone can come up with examples and arguments which are irrelevant. To have a strong argument however, you need to stay on the grounds of reality and do your research.
Even if it was relevant then what? The developers will probably look for gameplay changes in the gaming industry where they have at least a chance of finding anything. Or do you think they contacted the US military for advice? You point is again irrelevant.
"pushing buttons faster the pros know the game but if you really look at the top players even , what some incorectly call genius is not real all that much strategicaly its just being able to succesfully get your units to be able to do what you want them to"
This is almost the best part :) Starcraft nowadays can be considered a sport. The players will try to achieve proficiency in every aspect of it be it unit movement, strategic thinking or pushing buttons, because these MAKE UP THE GAMEPLAY. Being fast in Starcraft is like being fast in foot-ball, will you criticise a foot-ball team because its players run faster than those of the other team? The team in a great condition will often beat the other team even if the other team features players with greater strategic thinking or shooting skills. This is exactly the case with SC. So your claim that this part is "just" pushing buttons is yet again a faulty one.
"all i am really saying it is such a waste of time and human potetional to get where you are in top tier of guys who can hotkey worker every 14 secs then hokey base put him on minerals. This needs to change its such a useless outdated skill."
You are not in a position to tell anyone what is outdated or not. Think carefully, Warcraft 3 is a good game but not half as much competitive as Starcaft. SC has been going strong for ten years and there is no real sign it slowing down, the progaming scene is continually filling up with new players. Where will WC3 be in 10 years or 20 years ? Sorry to say that you have the nerve to act as if you are a master game editor. Have you ever considered that SC was created by geniouses?
If you weren't so infatuated with your irrelevant examples with the military, chess, princes and princesses you would probably take a look at how the gaming industry works in reality. If you want a game which will be alive for years you need professional multiplayer. This what they realized at ID soft when developing the third sequel of Quake, this is what realized at Epic games and created Unreal tornament and finally this is what many people on the world realised with the exception of you!
Can't you see that multiplayer equals competition, competiton carries inherently the fact that players will do everything to develop further.
Never have a competitive game been so successful as Starcraft, meaning the game mechanics in there are the most professional you can get. You talk about being outdated? Blizzard can update Sc with patches, just like the rally point can be set now by right-clicking.....a simple patch can do it. Do you think it is not within their power to issue a patch that would allow automining and mbs????? They do not issue this patch BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WANT TO, not because SC is outdated. How can you not understand that ?
This time the argument you used (outdated) is not even true or relevant to SC.......
I just highlighted in a few points that what you have written here is nothing more than empty words without real, solid evidence behind them. Now if you can let go chess, the military and other irrelevant topics I can tell you what I have learned while constructing a video about mbs and automining. I took the time to do a little research in order to use real arguments not just a bunch of words.
Reasons.
1. Lead Designer Dustin Browder : he has worked titles like C&C Read Alert 2, c&C Generals and was game design director for the Lord of The Rings series. These games feature neither micro nor real macro. The trademard of C&C is the right-side menu with which you can easily and quickly create units. No wonder then that this guy makes efforts to somehow make unit production easier.
2. Casual gamers. This is self explanatory, every game development company tries to reach out further and further and grasp as much audience as it can. Because of guys like you this might work, they may sell more. In the long run however, they will realize the the lifespan of such a game with less competition is is very short.
There may be other reasons for the automatization and autommining I just put here two. Next time if you are considering to make a thread about such a thing it would be wise for you to find solid evidence because talking about chess, foot-ball, military generals is nice but quite immaterial.
