How Will SC2 Affect Brood War Pro (3859 reads, 75 replies)
How will the release of SC2 affect all the competitive Brood War leagues, and all the progamers that play it? Will they switch to SC2 if it's worthy, or will they most likely stick with SC?

Do you also think that their SC:BW skills will transfer over to SC2? I haven't been keeping up with SC2 so I don't know much about how they're changing the units, etc.

I'm just wondering how much this will disrupt the proleagues.

they are saying it will just be a gradual process of sc pros switching over to sc2, but no one can know for sure what will happen. personally i don't see how all the sc fans and pros can switch over immedietely, but it seems like it has to happen eventually. maybe not though, maybe sc will always be around for as long as another decade.

According to SC2 news about new changes, StarCraft2 seems to be cool.
We shall see progamers' choice. ;p

Do you think competitive skills/knowing build orders will transfer over to SC2 and instantly give you an advantage over new players?

It depends if hardware advertisers will pay enough money for the leagues to shut off starcraft

I think it will take a heavy toll on the pro teams right away... and then slowly they will migrate over to sc2 just like the rest of the bw world. Eventually bw will be like vanilla is today, a few hard core fans but otherwise a dead game.

mmhmm...

and have to get used to a bit of WC3 style as from what I hear, the UI is similar to WC3? I already played alot of WC3 a few years ago (although I couldn't find the motivation or rather the motivation to become a pro Wc3 player died) and SC and WC3 UI's are very different let alone AI

In SC2 BW players > New players IMO, because BW players are used to know understanding of a game and have better sense of StarCraft.

And I'm afraid ( as many of you ) that BW will slowly die :( and players will start play SCII more and more, depends on SC II quality.

BW 4EVER !!!

imho sc2 won't change anything concerning korean pro-scene...
I guess they will add one league probably--
but starcraft can't just be exchanged with sc2 like a soccer player

The foreign bw scene will probably consist of the most hardcore fans of all time and the rest will jump on the bandwagon. If SC2 doesn't fail to compete with the quality of SC I will do so as well. If not I don't know what I will do. Probably crush random stuff, slam doors, burn someone's house, cry, wait for the police to arrest me. Or so.

I think they're introducing things that make it better for the man on the street, but the same things make it worse for progamers.

I remember Stork saying "as a progamer, this game isn't suited to me yet".

Don't want to judge the game before I play it, but I think if it cheapens the strategy too much, the pro-scene will just stick with BW.

some will always play BW, but the majority will switch. It's evident. Thats like driving a ford when you got the keys for a BMW. You got to love the ford a lot to still drive it ;) what imagery huh?

well

blizzard is aiming to make sc2 as game of "progamers". Focusing expecially in multiplayer-game we propably get unique game1!1!!11! And why not.. they gave us BW before 8D.

Strong amout of bw users buy SC2 when it arriwes. And we have not mentioned the other amount of "new generation" whom has not played BW at all.

Proleagues/korea sees the future market and are propably already making some arrangements to make this HUGE ("HUGE" = money). They are trying to make éven BW huge atm.. what do you think.. how much they put effort in SC2 ;]
