[H]Early game Protoss Macro (572 reads, 10 replies)
There's this one thing i can never get over..
i ALWAYS have a smaller army than my opponent in the beginning of the match, which screws me up for the entire game.

Here's a replay i played some mintues ago
http://www.2shared.com/file/3507437/655ae20c/LastReplay.html

What i can't understand is, i did a pretty decent probe harrass at the start, killing off pretty damn many probes, and my opponent was moving them around all the time losing LOTS of mining time.
So, my question is - How could he keep up with my army, and why was mine so small, when i didn't get harrassed at all + I had 1 more exp than he did, and didn't lose any starting probes, and even while he was keeping up with my army, sometimes his population was higher than mine, and he had more minerals than i did.

I just can't understand this, i keep getting this pretty much every game i play in the PvP and PvT matchups, I'm pretty decent at PvZ.

Help please.

have no time to watch the replay, but did you build probes ALL the time in early game? And when you exp, he can add gates and pump bit more units than you do, so he is bit ahead in unit count for some time before your expo kicks in. (u have to make that exp+gates after that and after some time you'll get higher unit count).

You had less units in the first fight because you spent money expanding while he spent his money on less expensive units. (zealots)
In pvp without ramp i recommend getting reaver tech before expoing.

Yes i spent my minerals expanding because i caused him enough economic damage with the rush i made, i believe he lost way more than 400 minerals in that attack i made, i don't think my expand was the deciding factor in SUCH a huge unit lackage.

and this rep was just an example, it wasn't this specific match, i ALWAYS, have this problem. :/

And @ shiney - well i usually pump probes pretty much the whole time, yeah, and we both had 3gates working non-stop before i added more.

Sorry if i'm being too negative about your comments, i really do appreciate them, i'm just pointing out my point of view.

sounds like a macro issue.. gonna dl and a take a look into this matter!

edit1, you let your nexis/gateways stand empty abit to much, and at about 05:00 you are building 2 goons in 1 gate and letting your other gate stand empty. Stuff like this can and will slow you down in the beginning were every unit is very important.

edit2, you ruined some of hes economy put lost alot units on it. So he has a stronger force then you and yet you wants to engage him? Now you lost even more units but still going for him when he has nearly 1½ zeal/goon and a coupple of goons.

remember, speed zeals eat goons in small battles.

I dont think I need to see more, you suicide to many units and have to bad macro.

The macro in your rep was awful. Make probes all the time, always keep up with the ever growing supply count, and constantly make gateways in times where you have nothing else to spend the 150 minerals on. Protoss has the most basic and straightforward macro feature, take advantage of it.

There is no shortcut just get used to produce the most you can and that's all.

dont stop making probes... if u are going mass zeals vs goons make ubgrade to speed zealots to damage well goons + make ubgrade +1 to weapon and if mass zeals u got much vespene so spent it on ht+storms.. hmmm and practise well

PvP is art of expanding, theres no certain time limits when you can exp :p

You really have to earn it, so opponent doesn't just overrun you with bigger army..
