pvt against tanks/vultures push (894 reads, 24 replies)
hey i'm new to gosugamers btw :)

anyway, i lost a matchup yesterday against a terran player ... & i notice that when they go tanks/vultures - protoss (or i) can't really do sh1t about it. i watched a lot of replays & i try doing the same thing toss players would do - like going lots/goons/observers/shuttle so i can take down the mines & have it splash against the tanks as the lots are being dropped. but the turrets are killing my shuttles & i can't really do anything but sacrificed my warriors so the push from tanks/vultures will go back.. yes it does work, but then they would just keep doing the same thing. i expand & tanks/vultures are still being pushed to my base. hmm, should i just go air or what? i seen good gosu players who lost against tanks/vultures push too, so i was just wondering what's the best way to beat it?

sorry if a thread is already made (i'm sure it has) but i'm too tired to go through all the pages; just link me to them if you find it, thanks.

Its all about massgaming at that point where you are.. :)

You know how to counter what terran does..so practise it..

just expo more than them and totally out macro them... just keep your macro up and you'll be fine. keep backing away if you think you cant kill his army yet slowly and bit by bit. just keep going up the tech tree while macroing consistently and you should be able to beat terran.

impossible to tell you how to beat tanks/vults push. It's tvp standard, very solid. Only way is simply to play better. There is no hard counter against it that will give you the edge in the game.

Uploade a replay and you will get proper advice.

It about timing, he can only push so fast, and if you let him just walk up to your main without a fight, then you are doing it wrong.

If you have bad macro you will lose against someone with better

If you have bad micro you will lose against someone with better

If you have bad timing you will lose againast someone with better

If he early push at 100 with only tank and vult, you should have shuttle by that time, and keep your goons in front of him because that stalls his push but pull back when he siege. When he siege use your shuttle and units kill stuff.

If he doing a really slow push with tanks because you keep pressure on him to constantly build turrets and stuff, then you should have tech unit by that time, like storm or something of the like and you should be able to wreck is stuff.

This is pretty much general issues in beginner Protoss's.

Speedlots > tanks
Goons+range > vultures+mines

Remember that. Don't go all lots, and don't go all goons. Mix them up a bit. Obviously in battle, speedlots goes first to clear mines and suppress vultures and tanks, while goons do their work from behind.

Observers. THE most important non-combat unit in every single match up. Use them not only to detect mines or seeing what enemy's base is up to, have an observer right on top of the enemy vults and tanks and see when they're moving out/where they're laying mines/when they seige, etc.

The goal of the Protoss in a PvT matchup is to outmacro the Terran before they both hit 200/200 (a 200/200 T army > 200/200 P army). Constantly scout out extra Terran expos, you must have one more running base than the amount of running bases the T has. Attack vulnerable hidden expos as well, now the T is at a bigger loss. For example, the T has 4 bases, 1 main, 1 nat, and 2 expansions. You must have 5 bases to keep up with his eco/production.

Lotbombs. Pretty much 4lots inside a shuttle dropping on tank positions to have friendly tanks fire upon their own tanks without realizing it. Pretty simple, this narrows down the number of tanks greatly (depending on how well you dropped) and this gives your goons an easier time to take care of things. gg no re

Be very careful of HOW you send your units don't send them in a line try to surround him and to reach his tanks with zealots if possble.

Don't forget to storm clump of tanks, espacially if you catch them siegeing

I find the best way to break a terran "push" (as I would call it, because most of the time, it's more of a "fail" than anything) is to do standard build order to observer...get like, 5 of them right off the start, the first one goes with your army, the second one in his base, and the 3 remaining I like to leave on open feild...you can see when he is seiged, and when he's not seiged...that way you can time your attack just right to attack when he is moving, and flank as well... this way, you get extra hits in, and also if he has fewer vults, makes the tanks easier targets for goons since they are unseiged/seigING...

What I'm really trying to say is, the best way to stop a terran push, is not to let them push.

try to scout and don't allow terran to ez expand. u want to usually have the map.
but yeah, it's hard to give advice... just keep playing and look over the games you play especially if they are some decent long ones.
sometimes u gotta back off the pushes as well and wait for a better time to attack.

#6 Sometimes goons go first, just to clear up half or more of the mines, so zeals will do alot more damage..

hey. would you like to explain how this rep you posted is gonna help? if you are a bad player, which you say you are, and just been looking through your posts on forums and it seems you are, and you're playing someone that was so bad you beat them easily without losing a building and while eating... how the hell is this going to help the OP?
and yet the things you say about the game just seems like 'look im so awesome I can win terran push ez look how good i am'

contribute, don't show off.

I would say that posting a replay of myself playing a PvT (which this person needs help with) would help someone who is having trouble in PvT, but if you don't think so, I'll post another one to show him how to break early push and then go on offensive.

I don't think I'm good...and I never said I was good, but I do know how to play the game.

posting a replay to help out is good. posting one to show off your own pvt when you're toying with a much much worse opponent than yourself is not good. That's just showing off, and will not be tolreated.

But as half the people would say on here

"HE HAD HIGHER APM THAN SAVIORSELF, HE WAS GOSU!"

Yep, I try to make probes constantly until 3rd expo is up and going, and around that time I got about 50-60.

Unless I am trying to macro like crazy, then I stop.
