    I could agree about the marine, but a ling is NOT the size of a dog. Also, both rines and zealots have some hardcore high tech armor shit. We're not talking bullet proof vest vs a tank, we're talking titanium.

    They are small units so they are damn hard to hit, mostly being damaged by debris or shockwaves. Marine's armor is likely resistant to that, and zerglings are just even smaller and harder to directly hit.
    An Ultralisk on the other hand is big as a house and naturally he'll take the full hit.

    OK. People need to stop talking about "Reality" and how things should be in real life. Its a bloody sci-fi game. The important issue is the balance issue. Blizz has a system that works very well with the current units, but it might not with the new ones. I approve of makeing changes, as long they are for the better. If it doesnt work out they can always go back to the old system

    From what I have heard, new system is unit vs unit. This is a smart choice.

    Why?

    You can make local changes, which is very important for fine-tuning balance. Say, it turns out that rines are to strong vs lings. Simple, you just make it that their rifles are not so effective vs new evolved carpace. This allows making small, LOCAL changes, which do not affect other unit/race matchups. With class based system, it is extremely hard to get it all right, since everything is entangled. Unit vs unit system is also more realistic.

    imo, people should stfu about the sc2 whining.

    I remember playing WC3 first day it got released, it had a damage system composed of about 3 types of damage. After a while (dunno how long), a new system came along (which is the one which is being used now, and is being used for SC2 - so yeh, the damage system in SC2 will be the same as WC3 judging from what I *READ* here).

    I like the damage system in WC3, but for SC2 it has to be revamped completely, because units have alot less hp, deals more damage, than in WC3. In SC2 you don't have heros, so it need to be redesigned and not just a copy/paste from WC3.

    A thing that I noticed this damage system is PARTICULAR good at in WC3, is whenever Blizzard changes small minor things in the system, new strategies/unit compositions arise. So almost every patch which adresses the damage system in WC3, changes the gameplay entirely (tactic wise).

    Those were my 2 cents anyway.

    This is a very good point. While I too love the simplicity of the old system I agree that more specific bonuses allow far greatly control on the balance of the game.

    I think you will still see generally the same bonus types, they just won't be as uniform. For example, tanks will likely still do full damage to big units, close to 75% vs medium, and close to 50% vs small, it just won't be exactly those numbers. The immortal will likely be the same way, but again just not exactly the same %'s as the tank.
