i said in my first post that leagues and tournaments would be able to use rigged maps, i know that when playing BO3 or BO5 some generated quirk could have influence too big on the final result.

But in ladder you play hundreds of games and bad maps would be there for everyone. Broken maps if occured would not be important statistically. Good players still would be above the worse ones. Hell, almost everyone is excited with football (world edition) and how many mistakes/pure luck is there? Offside goals, penalties pulled out of the referee's ass, ridiculuous own goals - you name it. And still noone questions competitiveness of 'real' sports.

my idea of generator was pretty much as the #12
predefined puzzles giving enough viable combinations:
    lets say:
    1. number of starting locations
    2. picking their position, map symmetry (predefined)
    3. picking shape and orientation (predefined)
    4. picking neighborhood, natural, etc (predefined)
    5. filling empty space with doodads, symmetric expos and stuff (also predefined)
you get the idea. Randomness would not be really drastic, only creating stuff from good looking and playable puzzles. It wouldn't create something really unplayable, for example 1 guy gets an expo and other does not.

Having hundreds or even thousands of rigged maps would be pretty much the same as you don't remember all of them - i just wanted to suggest stepping away from the idea of playing maps used to death with tailored specific strats. Randomizing in WC3 way definitely sucks, you KNOW the maps from the pool and KNOW from the start what to do.

Important is that random maps should be symetric

    Good idea. :)

I prefer the Blizz maps over popular ones like python/luna, etc. any day

And the random map making seems to make sense, and probably won't be too imba.

I love the idea too. Who knows how the execution of it would turn out, but it would be a cool experiment at the very least.

The only thing i'm worried about is are they gonna allow us to make maps that will affect our records? or will we have to be like war3 and play what ever maps they give us for the ladder? if we can make our own maps to play on ladder, i wonder how they'll make the ladder more stable and harder to cheat.

Talking about maps, Blizzard released a "planet profile" for Char; http://starcraft2.com/features/planets/char.xml

"Char's elliptical orbit means whole regions of its sunward face can become molten seas during a close approach, with temporary islands forming in them due to rapid cooling as the planet swings away to the frozen outer reaches of the system."

Made me wonder if they'll utilize that in maps? I mean imagine a landbridge that sometimes submerges under a lava sea. Or even an entire island-expo that sometimes goes under... Good for Terrans I guess as it seems the CC can store some SCV's and then lift of. :P
Would probably be some fun play, not sure how it'd work on a higher level of play thou. Maybe too much randomness (and that's why I posted it in this thread :P ).
