To me it seems like the zerg have alot of updated attacks and units as well as alot of spells that seem really new and the protoss and terran get much less of these. Did it seem that way to you?
- Well, looking at the Zerg Queen she has a lot of new spells that are very new, while the Infestor for example has many of the same type of spells like the Defiler has/had. However I could agree a bit, but the Terran did actually feel quite new as well. Apart from the Siege Tank, Marine, Battlecruiser and the Ghost much of it felt pretty new too. The Protoss however felt pretty much the same if you don't count in all the new "warp" stuff which I didn't use too much actually.
How is the micro "feeling" in 3D, compared to 2D SC1? For example can you still micro marine vs lurker in the same fashion and feeling? And, Whats your point of view at micro in general for SC2?
- The micromanagement definitely feels like it is the most important thing at the moment, micro/macro is a bit 65/35 at the moment. So yeah, you can micro the marine versus lurkers somewhat like it was in SC1. Dustin explained that the units actually react a lot faster now, in SC1 it was programmed that the units "checked" for new commands each half second, while in SC2 it checks a lot more often. This makes it tougher to "dance" when it comes to mutalisks, but with dancing marines versus lurkers makes it actually a bit easier. |

i guess you were able to play all three races. do you feel any of them has a significant advantage over the others at the moment?
- Not really, they actually felt pretty balanced in this build. Maybe the Zerg were a bit stronger, since they are the ones who are the newest and had the least development back and forth.
how much does the units' new mobility (reaper, colossus, warping, viking, nydus worm etc.) affect base layout and play style? much multitasking defending your bases?
- From what I've seen others play and myself, the base layout was pretty much alike the ones in SC1. It was hard to think totally new and not do like you were used to.
regarding graphics - were you able to understand what's going on during large battles, or are there too many special effects?
- I was afraid of that, since I have that problem in WarCraft 3, but in SC2 it's much more clean. So yeah, I was able to understand almost anything. Only trouble I had was that I couldn't recognize all the units as well as I would have should I have played the game more.
now that you've seen the product, how long do you think they will take to release it?
- considering they have been working on this since the releaseb of WarCraft 3, I'd say it could be everything from half a year to one year. It is still pre-alpha, they continue to say, but for a pre-alpha it looks very good. |
