The mod and map editore is going to be like Warcraft 3, only with even more power and flexibility.

SC2 editor is going to be shipped essentially with a full blown compiler and it is no longer just a "map making tool," but rather a "game development tool", since you can insert entire new races into the tech tree and have them show up in the GUI in the loading splash screen, and even add them to drop down menus. Karune has already said all this in one of the Q&A batches.

Additionally, you will be able to write spell/ability scripts for SC2 directly, instead of doing "work arounds" with dummy abilities and triggers like in Warcraft 3.

In other words, in warcraft 3, you could edit existing abilities, and make "clones" of those, but it was very tedious to make all new abilities. (had to use a dummy ability and write triggers to detect it being used, etc.)

In SC2, you can, in theory, create all new "spell/upgrade/ability" scripts from scratch.

With the tech tree being very easily editable, like Warcraft 3, and the ability to add/remove weapons and abilities from units without the need for a 3rd party hack, this means you will be able to create TRULY remarkable "historical" games: Civilization, Axis and Allies, Diplomacy games, with each race having totally unique version of terran tech.

No longer will UMS games need to "peg" one unit and replace it with another. The tech tree will be seamless, and because 1000 triggers wont be running in the background, games will actually play faster and smoother than in BW UMS games...

As an example, in the UMS map "Diplomacy Gold 7.0", each "human" race in Europe gets different versions of infantry, tanks, and aircraft, and they are all very IMBA because one group gets a marine, another gets a hydralisk, another gets a ghost, etc. The thing is, they all have completely different damage types that just don't end up being fair.

Well in a SC2 version of that map, everyones "marine" would have a "marine" skin, and just have slightly different stats: The nation that is good vs mech might get +1 vs armored, or the race that is good vs infantry +1 vs biological, and the demolitionist race might get +1 vs massive, etc.

So the Starcraft 2 game engine and editor will make for VERY powerful modding potential, unlike ANYTHING anyone has ever seen.

They have also implemented the ability to add custom resources and have it show up in the GUI and HUD just like minerals, gas, and food currently show up.

=====

It is possible that you may even be able to implement your own damage type modifiers, though this is just a guess right now. i.e. +x vs zerg, +y vs terran, +z vs protoss, +a vs custom race1, +b vs custom race 2, etc. (hopefully this would be in there.)

If this is not in the editor, then it would be the one thing I can think of that I WOULD suggest that I don't already "know" to be in there...

In first Starcraft you can't make more units when you have mutating larvae in a larvae group, will that be different in Starcraft 2?

Will the replay system be able to show games from older versions of startcraft binaries ? i.e. created with older patch level of starcraft than the installed one ?

Will you be implementing a much better ladder, where people play each other based on similar ratings, such as the arena one in World of Warcraft?

Will you be enabling the use of mods and enabling people to make macros that do things like : pressing button X selects groups 1,2,3. and pressing z once instead of 9 times to build 9 zerglings?

What's the computer A.I like for starcraft 2. Will it challenge even the most gosu starcraft players.

Are you looking into or thinking about people playing starcraft with their mind instead of using a keyboard for future starcraft games?

Apologies if any of these questions have been asked.

Blizzard,

this isn't a question but a suggestion.

Make SC2 play replays in such a way that older replays can be played without installing previous versions.

1) Are you working for make starcraft II graphic more realistic/sci-fi, like starcraft I?

2) Maybe the new cliff-jumps units, zerg worms, etc are going to cut off the drop mechanic in SCII?

Can there be a way to se the first person view from the replays, so that you dont have to film your screen while playing to make a FPVOD. So you can choose between normal(as in sc1), and first-person view of all the players in the game, or just the save the fpv of yourself and not the other players.

Then it will be easier to catch the cheaters and learn from the pros
I should realy do something diffrent with my life

I noticed watching a match that the mini mapand maybe all the map seems to show the map already fully explored just like war3. All fog of war style innstead of all blank/black like brood war. Will there be an option to maybe keep it oldschool or will it just be left this way? I would prefer to have the option available. any thought anyone?

Obviuosly yes like in WC3.
I personally don t like explored map because are more confusing for find units in the minimap and to know where I have explored/or not the map, moreover in sc there is no reason for the explored map, unlike WC3.

In the original Starcraft you are able to take each unit out of the battle for a moments notice and back again, using each unit to it's fullest potential before dying, making as much damage as possible and is this something you will be able to do as fast in Starcraft 2?

This feature helps making the original Starcraft the fast paced game we all know today, in previous questions you have said that Starcraft 2 will be as fast paced as the original Starcraft is, is this something you have continued with in the development of Starcraft 2?

The missions in the Terran campaign, how long in average will they be? As for The Protoss and Zerg campaign, you have said that they are only in concept stage in an interview with Thierry Nguyen(12/30/2008) at 1up.com about Wings of Liberty, but will these campaigns be as extensive in content as in the first campaign wing of Liberty?
