Introduced in an attempt to shape up this forum somewhat.
Failure to follow these guidlines will result in the thread to be locked and the user hinted how to do it right next time or even warned/locked.
Guidelines:
1. PUT AN EFFORT IN YOUR POSTS WHEN ASKING FOR HELP. Most important rules.
2. Always use the search engine! We don't want to answer every question ten times per month.
If you find an old thread that is interesting, you need a very good reason to bump it.
Also check the stickied threads before posting a new thread!
3. When you are asking for help, describe your problem WELL and add a replay. Both a good description/analysis at the best of your ability and a replay are generally required. Upload replay here: http://screplays.info/ for example.
Instructions
A description helps people to realise your reasoning behind your play, and might find errors that you are unaware of. A replay helps people see your actual play, and that is obviously helpful.
4. When asking general questions, don't make them TOO general. "What to do ZvP vs P FE?" is a too general question. And "Are queens good?". You need to be MUCH more specific.
5. If you don't know what you are talking about, don't try to make it sound like you do. Neither should you post guides if you do not know the subject well.
6. StarCraft: Brood War is balanced. I don't care what you say. It is. Don't discuss imbalances in the game at all. Imbalances on certain maps can of course be taken up, but not between the races.
APM has been discussed 1000s of times. We know APM is not the equivalent of skill, we don't need you to tell us.
7. Contribute or don't post at all. Non-offensive posts that are still completely useless will be censored/removed. "Protoss strat x is gay" is a useless post that will be censored, for example. Posting "get a life" to a contributing post is also useless posting.
Note that these are guidelines and common sense always overrules them! |

in answer to op there
I lock threads because generally people have lots of problems they don't realise. "I lose to lurkling in tvz" is a common question. Well, that is a standard zerg mix, if you lose to that we can't really help you, then you NEED a replay.
Simply, if you want help with your game, we need to see it. Otherwise he will just have the same general advice everyone who has already asked a similar question got. And believe me, that question has already been asked. Then he can just read that.
Sure, it might help HIM specifically, but it makes the forum repetitive, with the same answer EVERY time for each MU. Basicly, you could just answer "watch replays" to all these questions.
Main reason for DEMANDING replay is:
"I'm a noob and I got problem with x"
Most likely x isn't his problem, but other things like macro/micro. A replay helps pointing this out. Many people think that strategic advice will help them, when in fact they need help with their mechanics. Replays will show this to the people helping them, making them able to actually HELP. Without a replay the noob asking will get a good strategic reply which won't help him at all.
Also I want people to deserve the help. If I'm gonna take my time and write a long post during 15min I WANT him to actually deserve it. He does that by enriching this forum with a GOOD THOUGHT THROUGH post, including as much as possible. In this a replay and a desrcription+analysis are minimum requirements. Anyone shoould be able to do this, no matter his skill level in bw as long as he knows english well enough. |

Do to others what you would have them do to you.
Do not judge so that you will not be judged.
