Spaming APM (1650 reads, 37 replies)
I m playng sc since a year and my amp is about 75-90 but i never spam even on the begining of game. I know that many many players is spaming and they can reach high apm. My question is: does starting to spam can really improve your gaming?

no it cant improve or it can this will not mean that you have like higher apm and you better but 50% of your actions will be just spam

at the begging its ok to spam to warm up
you have to reach 120 and more without spaming it will improve

I remember low apm gosu cup

you have to have atleast 120apm 2 action per second

breakdown won because he was only gosu and had low apm

but now he has like 170-230 apm

Spamming can help you familarize yourself with your keybord and mouse sensitivity but beyond that it's useless. The key to getting faster is to always know what you're going to do next. The more you know you have to do the more you can do and the more you will do, eventually.

I find it helps warm me up, but if you do something like hold down 1 its quite pointless. I know I've screwed myself over by pressing S when I have my workers selected instead of my SCVS/Drones -.-''. But don't think APM means anything in SC, other than a rough estimate of how fast you are, which btw does not work for everyone. I know some pro's that have like 130 apm

Spam is never too helpful. In fact, sometimes it can negatively affect your multi-tasking because you tend to forget some things as you're fervently spamming.

Really, if you want to be fast, just start playing faster. Try to spend less time on things that can be done quickly. And quickly switch your screen view around the map to multi-task faster.

I've spammed 500 APM in a game before, but I had like 75% hotkey usage so in reality my useful actions weren't that many. Generally, you should never have above 60% hotkey usage because that only indicates too many spamming.

Generally, you should stay within 45%-55% hotkey usage if you want to maintain a high APM with some amount of spamming. In fact, people can get up to 250 APM with like 20%-30% hotkey usage. So really, just try to do everything faster and your APM will improve.

spamming beginning helps you practice your keys so you remember what to press and stuff , so you don't make mistakes. It helps your macro and micro. By spamming it is a warm up for better micro and macro in later game.

well with higher apm u can do alot more at same time. like drop 2 places at once and macro good. micro macro etc etc. but to spam to mutch is just waste.

mYm.Focus has like 400 APM for a warcraft player. But he has like 74% hotkey usage.

In my opinion, Warcraft is not really that APM intensive, you only need like 150 average (of course, 400+ in battles). Bet.Sweet has like only 180 APM but he is fucking ownage anyways.

In Starcraft, I guess 250 APM can make you the top player in the world (Boxer, Savior). Although when Savior saw these DT's from bisu, his APM probably went up to 400 LOL.

Lol? NaDa always has 600+ apm in the beginning...

I usually have 300-400 at the start too, it just feels better for me to play later after this and I move faster too. BTW, my avg APM these days is 200-230, and I dont spam after start. A year ago I was at 80 ^^

1 4 for practice hotkey units

select ctrl1 select ctrl4

then ctrl2ctrl3 ur base and start spamming 2rally3rrally2r3r2r3r2r3r2r3r2r3r to get your rythm ready so you can do actions faster. If you do a task and remember to come back to build another SCV you are already ahead of the game. This timing will extend to later in the game aswell, when you do tasks and remember to come back and build SCVs.

Also just selecting scvs at random will get you to be faster so when you start building base you scan and make a judgement on what next action priority. More you scan during game, the better. Don't stare at the screen move your eyes all around the screen, stimulate yourself, instinct instinct, click, click, scan make a judgement on game dynamics, should you focus on attack or build up base, where on the map should you look/move, etc. Think think think think think think click click click click

You get used to scan command center timing right before scvs pop out so you can keep mineral insanely low and get your building times faster.

Nada spams by hotkeying his CC to #3 and then he clicks on a vespene geyser while constantly pressing the CC hotkey.

pls dont compare a casual gamer's apm with nada ^^.. nada is the pwnzor of apm... i mean 400 apm during the whole game is almost impossible for a casual gamer... but not all the pros have that high apm it is just the style... so select what fits your style... as a terran player i think 170-200 will be good enough for multitasking though i have 100 average which shows why i suck (absence of multitasking).. i think toss requires lower apm... if you can control your lot goon army vs tanks and vults as u zealot bomb tanks then np ;).. ofc production in the mean time is essential... this would be like 140-150 without spamming i think ^^
