Mass Hydra in ZvZ (1105 reads, 22 replies)
I was just wondering how mass hydra build in ZvZ starts. I have faced it a few times and sometimes hydra massing starts quite soon and sometimes i see 4 hatch and mass colonies even before gas.

So how goes most recent hydra build? and if you can send a replay or two i would be happy. I really like to test this strat by myself se see how it does. So you can tell me some tips. What is the advantage of this strat? Can it scare opponent to make sunkens and fear 3 hatch speedling attack (I guess at the beginning mass H could turn fast into 3 hatch speeling..?)

I defeated sea.clan on ICCup on longinus with mass hydra after my mass ling failed. So it works if it works vs sea members. Ah he drop hacked after being pwned bad by hydras. And those hydras were from main only :>. He was 20-2 atm at beggining of season 2. Thats good enough to make hydras viable ;p. Enough for me, dont know if for u too ;p.

Also if my opponent start with same build (plz give me at least BO)
How should i react? Make Lurkers? He propaply reacts same way and make lurkers? And then we have slow TvT mid game going on with tactical drops???

I find that mass hydra gets beaten by upgraded mutalisks and mass sunkens. Having said that, try hydra/devourer if the game last long enough.

replay of pure hydra power:

hydras work only when you have an economic advantage imo. So best are as a follow up to a failed mass ling where you are so out teched that you cannot go for muttas, but instead go for hydras, preferably from two bases, but also work from one base.

other ways of doing is to go, as you said, four hatcheries before gas mass drones and pressure with lings. dunno the exact BOs or so though.

hydras depend much on the situation of the game, you can't really give a specific BO imo.. it depends too much on what your opponent answers with in early game

I agree with chaos.

Its interesting go Mass hidra, just an option , if the map you play has a natural expo behind your natural main. So with 1 cliff you can defend the mass ling with you starting hidra+lings.

Naturaly, when i go all in on a zxz trying to kill it fast with many lings, and its fail , and my oponent alredy has lair and i got nothing, i switch to mass hidra with upgrades 2-0 on attack. Keep evoluing and dont get out of your base. Make 2 lurkers its enought to kill Mass Ling + Mass Muta

If the oponent gets surprised and didnt make mass sunken i think you might win it.

I know that game. It's legendary hydra pwnage
But i'm looking for 1.15 reps. I don't mind if they are not pro reps. Just somehow decent players.

zvz hasn't evolved anything in particular the latest years so you really don't need any recent 1.15 reps. Just use old executables (can be downloaded at bwprogrammers.com) to be able to run the replays properly..

but remember that the game after that testie vs mondi, testie tried the same thing and mondi took an extra expo, teched to lurkers and pwnd his ass easy. First game was flashy, but it's not really the norm...

I tend to devourer rush in almost all my zvz vs mutabuilds. Grab the exp, turtle up, rush to hive while getting a ton of lings, start making hydras quite late and finally get some 4-5 devourers.

Beware of a ground switch from your opponent as well as scourges.

Thx Lord_of_Chaos. Now i will accept older reps too. So if muta users makes lurkers. What hydra users should do? Just mass up and hope that it's enough?

And what hydra users should do against each other?

bitches

i like queens

costs you 1 muta and 2 lings to make up queens nest and another one for the queen.
then you can do parasite on a muta and see where hes moving em to. or he sorts out this muta and cant use it for the battle. and everytime you get 75 ene you can take another one so after 2 mutas it should be paid. sure it is risky for the time until you got it, but on nonpro level you have this time often.

O.o aha in the old days before the expansion even (LONG AGO) Mass Hydra was uber popular in teamgames, tvz etc considered to be most versetaile and deadly in mass numbers there was a recent rep even where a z ran over a t with 200/200 hydra :P
