Another replay thread... (304 reads, 5 replies)
Hi folks.

I don't really have time for mass gaming now because of school and such, but I was wondering if you could take a look at my replays and give a slight estimation of what rank I could climb up to @ iccup or similar ladders. I know this is stupid but I just want to have some kind of a clue of what rank I could possibly be if I had time to play a lot.

rep2: http://rapidshare.com/files/51896504/w_tvp_sensi_longinus.rep.html

Both games are TvP and I'm not sure if my opponents are good or not but anyway. Also if you have some tips for me that'd be cool. I know I had sloppy macro in both games and I quit the 1st one prematurely but besides that all help would be great.

Thanks and plz don't flame ^^

edit: oh btw, I'm the terran @ both games.

Well, if you know it's stupid, you shouldn't have asked. I will go ahead and give you some insight though, without even needing to watch your replays.

What level you COULD be, is totally up to you.. and won't have anything to do with what anyone else says here.. so you might as well ignore any responses from someone who decides for you what your capable of doing. Whatever you put your mind to, and truly believe you can do, you can do.

I'm going to take a guess that your fairly young, and by that I mean <25. Stop worrying about what other people think, and start thinking yourself. Your life will end up much more rewarding.

Ok you slightly missed the point. What I meant was that I'm a casual player and I have little time/interest to improve beyond my current form and really have no clue about the level of play on iccup because I haven't played much since I started BW again ~6 months ago after a several years' break. Just curious if someone who plays iccup could say a subtle estimation if I'd get smashed there or do I stand a chance even against D- players ^^. Also if you find some flaws in my game let me know.

Well, again I've yet to watch the replays, because I probably couldn't estimate what level you are just by watching anyways (unless you were really really bad). I play ICCUP fairly regularly, and I've recently started climbing up D from D-. Like you, I hadn't played BW for years and years, until a few months ago.

I will say this, if you play 1v1's on Bnet, and you struggle, you will get pummeled in ICCUP. The play on ICCUP is definately a notch above bnet (although I've played some C+ and better players on bnet). Since I've started playing ICCUP, I rarely play bnet anymore.. but when I do, I win more games than I lose. Previous to starting ICCUP, I only won about 30% of my games on bnet. So, if you play bnet, that should give you some insight.

As for practice times and such, I play anywhere from 2-3 hours a day to none. I would say on average, I probably play an hour a day. That has allowed me to take my game from a very bad D-, to I would estimate a low D. Overall, your probably looking at needing several hundred games to be a D player (obviously depending on how fast you learn, to an extent) on ICCUP. I don't know how many to advance past that, because I haven't yet.

If you really want to know, just load up ICCUP and play some games. Try to stay away from the non-established players (like a D player thats 7-0.. more than likely it's really a C or better player just starting over). I prefer to play people that have at least 20 or so games and a rating close to mine, so I at least stand a chance to win.

Ok I went ahead and watched one of the games (the first one). As I suspected, I really couldn't give you an accurate estimate as to what your iccup rating would be, nor could I even begin to estimate how good you could be. However, I will say that you played better than I do, at least I think you did, and I'm a low D. If I had to guess, I might guess your in the C range? But, total guess.
