how to counter this rush? [TvP] (1429 reads, 21 replies)
I sux 2 times against this rush... in the first I went for 3 gate obs but nothing to do...

put early pressure with goons, if he 2facts, he cut marines to get 2nd fact faster(or his 2fact is very slow) meaning your first few draggons can do good damage, sometimes even win game.

1.Put your units on his entrance NOT yours. Then slowly back away when he start attacking and slow him down as much as you can by microing your goons and stay away from spider mines. While doing that pump units if you think that you can't hold him (if needed add another gate), or expand if his attack is small (which means that he is probably expanding as well).

2. At around 4 minute you should have 2 goons, send them right away to his entrance and start killing marines one by one and harass until the tank shows up. If you can kill him do it. At maps like tau cross this is more effective because there is no ramp. Continue sending goons from 2 gates but while microing them at his entrance try not to slow your macro.

3.After having something like six goons you can expand (or earlier if he expands first - if he does that try to slow him, but don't lose many units as well).

4.I personally think that it is much better to do robotic facility before citadel and templar (because dark templars can be killed pretty easy by spider mines). You can expand first or do robotic facility and observer first. If you expand first you delay your obs and make it harder for your goons by not seeing the spider mines, but also give a boost to your economy.

5.After making 2 observers (one for his entrance and one for your dragoons) you can make 1 shuttle and 4 zealots. Using obs to see his entrance and how much units he has, you can decide if it is a good idea to use the shuttle with zealots and your dragoons to attack his expansion (it will be very good if you can hit in the right moment when he spend the money for the expand, but not get any money from it yet and therefor has little army). If you decide to do that attack you should land the zealots at his tanks and half a second later send the goons and maybe 2-3 more zealots. That way the first blow of the tanks goes to the zealots and while that you can try to kill as many tanks as you can with your goons. With that kind of attack I have wined many times.

6. After the early battles it is almost only macro and who has more expands. Then you can add citadel, make fast zealots and then high templars with storm. It is a good idea to store your templars in a shuttle because some terrans like to send some vultures to kill them fully ignoring your forces around them. That makes it harder to micro but you should try it.

7.Remember you must always have at least 1 more expansion more then the terran. And remember that the protoss is the aggresive one in the PvT so don't keep your units in your entrance - then he can put all kind of shit around you and give you no space for a good attack.

This hints can help you deal with your problem. It will help a lot if you improve your micro (for the rush) and your macro (for the whole game) and if can do many things in the same time (which is the most difficult thing for me).

yes very true, but at least he wasn't Italian

I've always wondered were some P's got them temps from... genius to hide them in shuttles, I've fallen for that one a few times thinking... omg noob no storm push go..... damn!!!

Why did u make DT after u saw that he is going 2 fact ?? -_- It's quite obvious that he will do mines if he goes 2 fact so it's not the best idea to go DT ^^ U should make obs/drop in a situation like this :) I know it's easy to say because I'm suck in p/t as well but I can defend the first attack pretty well :) When I see that he is building 2 fact I go 3 gateway and try to win the game with 1 exp .. even if he will try to exp u have zet/goon/drop/obs/storm(?) which should kill him with good tactic and micro -__-

Well I watched the reps for second time to see if you are right but Im sorry to say that you are not. He has something like 200 gas when he starts his first machine shop. You must have seen wrong or a program bug maybe, dont know.

must be program bug, a lot of the time when i watch replays both players stop doing anything. my resources section in bwchart shows him having 20000 resources though, anyone else get that bug?

Yes I do, it happens when you watch a rep that is older version then your BW. You have to download replays that are the same version as yours!

Pylon,Gate,Gas,Core,Pylon,Goon,Range,Goon,Pylon,Robo,Gate,Goon,Observatory. Constand pump goons at that point if u know hes rushing and position urself in a good spot and make sure the goons are in a vertical line so when he does come out all goons can shoot at once. If u get ur obs in time u can easily fuck up the vultures then clear the mines.
And its easily the safest PvT build besides like 3 gate with obs lol.
