Watch this video, about mid way through the banelings come out and start to attack the colossals. The first colossal dies after four banelings attack it (Notice the green explosions when they do daamge) but the second one has five attack it and it still lives... (Note the first explosion near the second colossal was him killing it, not it exploding on him.)

So do you think that either the banelings have a damage range (X to Y damage instead of X damage each time) or do you think that you can score critical hits against something, so one of the first banelings got a "critical" and so it only took four to kill it?

Some splash attacks have two layers of dmg, the core dmg which is stable, and the splash dmg which decreases the further away the enemy is from the center. My guess is that the benelings only has splash dmg and not core dmg, so when the colossal started moving, their dmg are very ineffective. Or Colossi do splash dmg as well and killed another one in the midst of chaos ;o

Thats the same like the scarbs or the infested terran. When you are running sometimes when the scarb explode dont do full damage, only some splash damage.

It looks like it just takes the damage as normal though, not like it got down to the point of dieing and just stayed alive.

I could be wrong though.

Earlier in the movie, the colossus that died out of 4 banelings was attacked by zerglings so it didnt have full hp/shield when it was attacked.
