Latency, can't create games? (18302 reads, 62 replies)
Since there has been a few of these threads out there, I thought I could as well make a sticky about it.

What happens is this: You create a game as usual, but no one can join it due to "too high latency".

How to solve it then? You need to forward ports in your router to fix it. It's easy when you know how to. There are some very good guides out there to help you:

http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm
Choose your router, (if you don't know what model you have, read on the router :P).
When clicking on your router model, you will be taken to a new page. Scroll down and you will see a big list of games and programs. Choose starcraft. Click it and then follow the guide. Simple as that.

StarCraft:
* Allow port 6112 TCP and UDP out and in

blizzards own tech support might also give you some help, but I strongly recommend portforward.com. Blizzard also links to them.

Just manually create a virtual server :
Firewall > Virtual servers

This function will allow you to route external (Internet) calls for services such as a web server (port 80), FTP server (Port 21), or other applications through your router to your internal network.
I some routers (Belkin f.e.) you can just pick the game from a list, it opens the needed ports for you.

Ok the most easy way to enter your modem is to go to the start menu then press run.
When run comes up type in cmd and press enter.
Then u get a new widow up in that window u type Ipconfig and press enter, When u do this u shoud get the stander gateway address up u can use this address in any internett browser to enter your modem/ruter. in some of them u need a password to enter. i know alot of them all u need to do is keep username blank
and type Admin in password.

hope this helps

It is not only the firewall problem.
You have to have public IP.

Some time ago I was using internet that did not give me public IP, and then noone could join my games, even with firewall off.

For router users, SET UP A STATIC IP. remember the static ip as well.

great guide: http://portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm

i got my static ip and i then went to Port Forwarding-> found my router name/model and did as told by entering static ip and following directions. this is great and i can now make games ^^ static ip ftw

#15, yeah, but you can't do anything with that. If you don't have public/static IP you won't create games.

static ip means the ip ur router give to ur computer, not the ip u get from the isp

if u have 1 modem and 1 router u should set the modem to give the public ip to the router (called DMZ mode)
if u don't know how to do that u should check out the homepage of the manufacturer of ur modem.

so how about joining games?

ive had this problem for a while, its nothing major, but its better to be able to join games rather than make all of the time... my ports opened, my firewall off, i can join games, but if game starts and there is mroe than 2 people ( 1v1 + obs for example ) i get mega huge lag, but if i was to make the game, i can have up to 8 players! ??? :s

how do i fix that then? ^^;
