Hamachi Guide and server lists (32767 reads, 153 replies, 3 years ago)
Since there are so many Hamachi threads I figured i could make a little guide and then this thread could be the place to post your servers and ask your questions. This will be sticky and we'll refer other threads to this one.

Hamachi
Newbie guide to Hamachi gaming with Starcraft Brood War.

What is Hamachi?
Hamachi is a software program, which can make a LAN over the internet. It can be used for several things, but what we will focus on is gaming.

The advantages:
The game can be played without going into battle.net. It also decreases latency between you and your opponent. The last and maybe the best thing is, that you don't have to think about if you can create a game or not.

Where can I get Hamachi?
You can download a copy on their website: http://www.hamachi.cc/
Here is their download page.

How do I install it?
Installing is fair and simple. You can look at their website for hints or follow my guide:

1.) Download to your computer, for example to your desktop.

2.) Now double click the program, to open the install dialogue.

3.) Click next, at the first dialogue. Accept their Agreement and click next (read if you want to)

4.) At the next page you will see, where to install it. You can install it in any other directory, but I will recommend using the default. If you think, you are going to use this program much, you should check “Automatically start Hamachi when you log onto Windows”. Click Next.

5.) “Disable vulnerable Windows services over Hamachi” check this button, if you are only going to play through Hamachi. If you are not checking this option, people will be able to see your shared files. Click Next

6.) Now as default it is set to premium. That is not necessary, as we are only using Hamachi for gaming purpose, check the basic membership. If you want to compare the basic to premium, then log onto Hamachi's website and find it there. Click Next and Install.

7.) The program will now install, this can take a few minutes depending on your system. After you have installed it you will notice that you have a new connection in your connection list called Hamachi. Hamachi is now installed. It will display as a tray icon in the lower right corner of your screen with 3 green dots. If Hamachi is shut down, then you can always find it at Start --> Programs --> Hamachi.

How do I configure Hamachi?
After you have opened the program, you now have to setup the program. The guide will tell what the buttons do and stuff. If you get stuck in the guide, close it.

Try going to our search button in our forums and type Hamachi, and you should get plenty of networks you can join: http://sc.gosugamers.net/search.php?i=forum&do=advanced&Srubrik=hamachi&Sinlagg=&Snamn=&forum_from=1

The green dots at a network name means that you are logged into that network. If the people in the network has a green dot, that would mean you are connected with them in a LAN through the internet. You can right click on them (if they and the network are green) and send them a message about if they want to play.

After you agreed on a game, you now open Starcraft Brood war, select Multiplayer and then Starcraft Expansion. Now instead of using Battle.net use the UDP network. The creator’s game will show up in the list, and the other player may join.

Some info about network problems, with different colors than green dots: http://hamachi.cc/help/tunnel.php

That should be it. Fairly easy. now, post your servers below.

Edit: http://sc.gosugamers.net/wiki/index.php/Hamachi , more detailed info about positive aspects of using Hamachi.

"Blinking green indicator means that the peer is online and Hamachi is working to establish a connection. It typically takes under a second to establish the tunnel, but sometimes it may take up to few minutes."

actually GGclient is a program similar to Hamachi, but it's focused on gaming .
GGclient works for wc3 , cs q4 bw (ofc) and some others .
Each game has a main channel with sub channel .
GGClient has a quite nice user interface , and it's easy to use .
The GGclient community also organizes stuff and broadcasts games , but only for wc3 .

There is also a Ranking system than rate your skill by compting the number of games you played .

btw , which hamachi's channel would be the best to practice ? I'm fucking bad at sc and help would be welcome :[
