Australian SC Hall of Fame

It is the start of a new year and 2006 brings in a whole new era since this game began all those years ago. Sometime ago Pandasaurus, Fester and myself (Freezer) formed a selection panel to honor those Aussies who have achieved something significant in this game that a lot of us have fallen in love with.

The top 10 Counting Down...

10. Australia Paladin
Mostly known on the id's: ak)paladin(b2k and oG)Paladin. Paladin was one of the most feared Protoss users in a country dominated with a large volume of Protoss talent. Paladin was a key member in the Australian National Team and was often known for his Reaver/Shuttle micro as well as his ability to end games fast with his unusual tactics/cheese. Paladin scrapes into the hall of fame as the 10th inductee.

#9. Australia Sectoid
Although fairly unknown by most, but remembered by many old schoolers as arguably Australia's best Starcraft player in the beginning. Sectoid's popular Terran play carved the way on the Aus-1 server in an era dominated by protoss players.

#8. Australia Juggs
Otherwise known as crap007 and being a random player hailing from QLD. Juggs went to Korea in 2000 representing Australia in the WCC which was the start of the World Cyber Games.

#7. Australia Filthy
Otherwise known as Crap999, the crazy random player from Western Australia. Filthy was known for his unusual random tactics in games which made him a tough opponent to defeat. For instance he would sometimes go a BBS build in a TvP match which would make his style very unpredictable. Filthy was a member of Team Australia and finished top 8 in one of the earlier seasons in WGT and finished top 4 in a season of WGT 2v2. Filthy also participated in the Australian WCG finals in the years 2001, 2003, 2004. He is now a decorated WC3 player where he finished 2nd in last years WCG.

#6. Australia HaLL
Coming from Queensland as many top Starcraft players have. Hall was a player of all races and was one of the first to be recognised as a competitive player in the early years of Australian Starcraft. Hall went to Korea in 2000 for WCC representing Australia.

#5. Australia L!MP
L!MP is the only Australian Starcraft player to appear in the National Finals every year since WCG started. His positions include: 2001 1st, 2002 8th, 2003 4th, 2004 2nd, 2005 3rd. His glory came in 2001 where he won his way to participate in the world finals in Korea. L!MP is still a current Team Australia representative.

#4. Australia Razor
Razor will be best remembered for his WCG success where he went to Korea in 2002 and San Francisco in 2004. One of the old school zerg players from the Aus-1 server, he has to be included in the top 5 due to his excellent achievements in this game. You will find him these days managing the busy iStarzone internet cafe in Sydney.

#3. Australia Starhunter
The best player ever to come out of Victoria. Nick "Starhunter" Hogan was a member of popular clans back in the day like: [CF], TF- and X17. He gamed more on the east server then he did on old Aus-1. But when WCG would come he did not disappoint. Starhunter finished 4th in WCG 2002 in Australia but made it to Korea as Iori had pulled out due to exams. In 2003 Starhunter won Australia WCG and represented Australia in Korea again. Nick also had a an impressive record in the Victorian WCG Quals where he only lost 1 game in his first 4 years of playing. Will be remembered as one of the true legends of this game.

#2. Australia Iori
The Boxer of Australian Starcraft. Iori was a Chinese Australian Terran who played the game at amazing speeds. He was best remembered in 2001 for attending the WCG World Finals in Korea. Then again impressed the year later finishing in 2nd place behind. But declined the ticket due to studies. Iori had a lot of potential for great things in this game and many feel his career in Starcraft was cut short due to studies and exams.

#1. Australia Legionnaire
No surprise here, you may as well say it that Legionnaire is officially the greatest Starcraft player our country has ever produced. Peter Neate as he is known to us set his sites on Korea where he was a semi progamer, playing for progaming teams like Hexatron and the Pirates of Space. He was an icon known as "WinkToss" to thousands of Korean fans who saw him on their tv screens destroying the entire Toona team in a team vs team match. And also his record 57 reaver kills game. His proud resume, apart from having participated as a team member in both South Korea POS and South Korea hexatron pro-Gaming teams, also boasts an impressive list of results.

Legionnaire's Accomplishments

2nd place, WGT Season 2
1st place, PGTour ISL Tournament
6th place TLT2
3rd place TLT1
Top 32 WCG 2004
1st place WCG Australia 2005
1st place WCG Australia 2004
1st place WCG Australia 2002
3rd place WCG Grand Final 2005

Legionnaire's proudest moment came in 2005, the year where he was crowned with the bronze medal at the WCG Finals in Singapore. This came a few months after he retired from professional progaming and many people wrote him off and instead Legionnaire defeated the top Chinese player CNStorm winning himself 5 grand.

Many still ponder what would have happened if Peter had not failed against Androide in the match he lost 1-2 which would have booked himself a place in the final. Could Legionnaire have gone all the way? That is something we will never know. But what we do know is Legionnaire is still a true champion and is also deserving of being in the #1 position in the Australian Starcraft Hall of Fame.
