Staredit.net Changes Hands

The Staredit Network has lost its founder. Yoshi da Sniper, the map-making site's head administrator, is passing on his responsibilites to Mini Moose.

After many rumors, and a few server downtimes, the word is out - Canada Yoshi da Sniper has finally left the Starcraft Network, leaving United States Mini Moose 2707 in control of the website. The site will continue to operate normally, albeit with a slight shortage of staff - a few have retired or gone inactive.

From the comments it would seem like this has happened before, but this time it appears that Yoshi is gone for good. The usual statements that Starcraft is dying, etc. are largely baseless - many a webmaster pass thier sites on when it becomes too much for them to carry on. Yoshi had wished to "fade out", and disappear slowly in order to avoid creating a hubbub.

From the time Yoshi da Sniper founded the Staredit Network in July 2003, it has been a repository of knowledge for mapmakers, who, until then, were without any real map-specific site, and having to rely on the small map sections of more general fansites instead. I salute Yoshi for the community he has created, and wish Mini Moose the best of luck in carrying on.

Short interview with Mini Moose regarding the changes.

varaon: Do you have any words to wish to Yoshi, etc.?

Mini Moose 2707: Good luck with your project (he'll know what I mean) and with your life. I wish you would've considered a better way to go down, but you did what you had to. You've laid a great foundation, and hopefully we can keep the building running. Thanks for all you've done, and take care, drop by sometime, you're always welcome here.

varaon: Are you now the official administrator?

Mini Moose 2707: Currently, we are still working things out. Isolatedpurity is the main coder, administrator, and the money guy, who I am very grateful to have. He has placed me in charge of v4 (the current site) so he is free to focus his efforts on v5 (a complete recode, no Invision). Technically, you could say this would render me an administrator in duty, but not in name. Personally, I'm more concerned with doing things rather than who I am doing them as.

varaon: Will there be recruitment soon as a result of so many people leaving?

Mini Moose 2707: There already has been some recruitment going on behind the scenes. We have enough people behind to fill a lot of jobs and take on some extra weight. But, when you're in a position like this, you must realize that you can't expect a few people to be able to do so very much. Three people were hired to monitor and manage the DLDB (Downloads Database) and two more were hired to moderate specific forum areas. I'm not really a fan of fancy public recruitments, but old-time respected veterans may be asked if they would be willing to take on a "promotion".
