NaDa fell to the 'OGN Curse'
The 'OGN Curse', which says that the champion of the precedent OSL will not make it out of his respective group once again proved to be true. Winning only versus
Oversky and losing to both
iloveoov and
Reach in group A
NaDa (Pic) ended up on the third spot, but only the two first advance.
Protoss failing, Terran prevailing
Some may curse the maps, others may say the main Protoss players are simply slumping, but one thing is undeniable: Protoss players have not been doing well in OGN for quite some time now and it does not look any better in the current
'Ever' Starleague. Out of the eight players who qualified for the quarterfinals there are five Terrans, two Zergs and the one lonely Protoss
Reach. But let's have a look at the quarter's fixtures:
'Ever' OSL 2005 - Quarter-Finals iloveoov vs. XellOs
Julyzerg vs. Iris[gm]
Goodfriend vs. Midas
Gorush vs. Reach |
iloveoov vs XellOs
We have here on the one hand
iloveoov, who is maybe the strongest Terran player right now. Although he fell to the OGN curse like NaDa after winning the
'Ever' Starleague 2004, he has always been playing on top since he began to be a top pro.
XellOs on the other hand has the highest TvT record of all the progamers (65% as opposed to oov's 62%).
Julyzerg vs Iris[gm]
Iris[gm] should clearly be the underdog here, since he is much like a rookie to the progaming circuit, while
Julyzerg is known for his aggressive, relentless offensive play. Percentage wise their records are about the same: 57% (July) and 58% (Iris), but having less games Iris' stats mean less.
Goodfriend vs Midas
The second TvT in this quarters.
Midas should ring a bell for everyone, not only due to his achievements in the World Cyber Games 2004. He moved to SKT 1 several months ago and has since been training with some of the best players like iloveoov and Boxer. His opponent
Goodfriend is probably less known outside Korea, but he is considered to have a very strong TvT, NaDa is his team mate after all. Winning percentages: Goodfriend 64%, Midas 57%.
Gorush vs Reach
Reach, the only Protoss player having it made past the groups has to face one of the most deadly ZvP Player around. Among top pros as Nal_rA and Kingdom, Reach's winning record versus Zerg is one of the worst (57%), while
Gorush has 66% versus Protoss.
