WCG Korea: Round of 24 getting started

Posted by Bryan "Micro-Lzuruha" Wood 1 year ago

(Stork, Bisu and Jaedong, the winners from last year)

One of the biggest events in e-sports for StarCraft is going to get it's first major bit of popularity as the Korean event is set to get going tonight.

It's the same story every year, South Korea in first, second and third. There has only been a few instances where that wasn't the case, and one of the times it led to the first protoss winning the tournament. Back in 2005 when a young Russian Terran known as Andriode took on fOru from Korea, fOru won making him the first Protoss to ever win. Fans of the game around the world, and those who have qualified for the final tournament in Los Angeles are going to be tuned in to see who will be unleashing the swarm in America.

Each round will have slightly differing maps, Round of 24 will be Grand Line SE, Polaris Rhapsody and Fighting Spirit. Four players have already received a bye in the tournament and will be joining the rest in the round of 16. The four being Jaedong, Bisu, Stork and Flash (WCG Korea winners last year, Flash is based of off KESPA rating) while the rest of the field stacks up like this;

Korean pros dont care about wcg... they only look at osl, msl, and proleague... Maybe at this time, amateurs may have some chances to go to wcg :)

#6 is full of bs. wcg has quite hefty prizes, as if the koreans don't want free money.

#15, read #5.

박재현 = park jae hyun
이예준 = lee yae joon
i dont think that helps, but they are (unknown?) amateurs anyway.

i dont think non-koreans will have a better chance to win than before. there is hardly anyone who did not play sc2 and had a brake in bw because of that while korean pros still play their leagues constantly.
