The Dark Horse Tournament is a new Starcraft event – sponsored and organized by www.polygonrevue.com and Geoff ‘iNcontrol’ Robinson, featuring his students from the Coaching for Cash programme.
There will be commentated VODs by some of the most loved voices in the business, there will be replays, hype, interviews and simply kickass Starcraft. The purpose is to put the spotlight on all the skill that exists among the grassroots of the community, and bringing the same kind of glory of big tournaments to those who have the skill but not yet the name.

Awesome news. Going to be nice to see if anyone got what it takes :D
"Geoff ‘iNcontrol’ Robinson, featuring his students from the Coaching for Cash programme." Shameless self promotion. I love it.
pff ..only for incontrol students
WTF? is this really only for incontrols students? -_-.......sponsored by incontrol? wtf do u mean ? how is this sponsored.
This event will offer Starcraft entertainment for the community in a time when we are craving more action once the TSL is over. There will be excellent commentary, hype, articles and interviews - and good games. It is also initiated by iNcontrol as he wants to extend his Coaching for Cash service. Good fun for all of us or shameless self-promotion? Both - one does not exclude the other. Hopefully it will be a good event for observers and participants alike
polygonrevue wow... why would all of the starcraft community want to watch incontrols students? What possible hype could be created about incontrol's student's that im sure majority of people here don't even know? I for one have seen / heard enough about incontrols constant ad's trying to grab peoples money.. wow just wow... of course he wants to extend his coaching for cash service , do you realize how obvious that has become with all the threads that have been created on gg.net / tl.net ? The guy wants money ,and he wants to self promote himself, so so so sad....im just guessing we are going to see another ad about incontrol's coaching for cash within a week or two on gg.net headlines edit : Its not good fun for all because theres an extremely limited amount of players who are allowed to attend, only people who hand incontrol $. Theres no prize pool except for 1st price 6 hour teaching from incontrol / runner up 2 hr,so its not like these players are going to win any of the $ back from incontrol lol. it is shameless self promotion, it does exclude the other because i'm sure there is a great deal of people that will find no " fun " in this what so ever due to the constant $$ asking / shameless self promotion, if you dont agree fine, thats nice, this is my opinion. "32 man tournament" "The participants will be however many people sign up" ...So it is a 32 man tournament but presenting this tournament ad on ggnet is going to hopefully increase incontrol's student count and make more people want to play in this tournament = Give incontrol more money , so an ad is created on this site to create hype to try and create more students / people who want to play in this tournament, aka just trying to grab as many heads as possible to take the peoples money. This whole tournament is not about helping the community, creating hype, teaching others, articles, commentary, VOD's or replays, its about Incontrol making more money, and im guessing polygonrevue as well since he is a serious supporter of this, its all to obvious what this all breaks down to is money, money, money. Sad.
More stuff going on - better for the scene. Thats my general approach.
I cant but wonder why this is here. It's only here because of 'Incontrol'. The most ridiculous thing is, this is so blatant advertising it's not even funny. The dark horse of what? Incontrols D to C+ students? what dark horse is there? Like, please? By the time (if ever) anyone of these players amount to anything SC2 will be out. I'm fine with making a tournament for his students. I'm kinda fine with making a forumpost about it to multiple forums, even though thats pretty blatantly just searching for people under the delusion that they could actually win real fame with this even though they cant. The thing that sucks about this is the fact that gg.net is supporting this kind of blatant advertisement, because honestly, what more is there to it? If incontrol wanted to make a good tournament for the community he would allow all players to participate, not just his students. But oh no, that would be too good wouldn't it? Someone who hasn't paid him getting FREE lessons?
I dont wanna laugh atleast for now ^^ I wanna see some comments first
maybe there will be better games than some people think right now, I hope there will be great matches, showing enough skill, if that is the case, then I honestly don't care if this is a way for incontrol to try to gain more students, because if this indeed shows awesome skills, then people will of course think about it, otherwise it's useless for him, anyways.
This is very very funny.
Regardless, I hope that this will bring enjoyable content for all to enjoy. That, above all, is the point
Tourney = good thing Only his students = bad thing (agree with Ahzz)
Ok? ........ why advertise this on a news site? Why cant they just have it for themselves. This is pointless.
GosuGamers bring news about WC3 and SC and DOTA. Does this news article fit into one of the 3 games?...Yes it does.
#8 same thought.
i find it troubling that this is received with positive acclaim everywhere except at gosugamers. What about this community makes some of you so bitter? Yes this is a tourney that has some exclusivity to it.. but it is still a tourney that anyone can be a part of if they have 10$. If you don't want to be a part of it you can watch and root on friends or countrymen or people dedicated enough to pay to get better.. where is the harm in that? Replays will be publicly released, commentated finals etc.. this is all for spectators and for those serious enough about scbw that they want to pay to improve. Why the hell do some of you get so damn bitter about these k ind of things? Be nice for a change.
#17 We just think its no use to make any "news" about it, if ur going to have a tourney for ur students, do that. Post in forums etc and people can still watch it if they are interested. And noone is hating on u inc we love the panda teddy bear geoff :)
#18 bitching about "newsworthiness" has to be the most retarded complaint ever registered. What the hell does it matter to the community? A 1 inch space heading was consumed on the glorious gg.net front page.. it will be completely gone in a week DEAL WITH IT. For those that didn't know about the tourney or the opportunities it presumes THIS IS news worthy for them. If this seems really stupid and worthless to you then I apologize ahead of time for the 1 inch space this took up on the front page. Hopefully it will be filled up with more uplifting news like zotac being canceled or another news article about some aspect of TSL that isn't already posted 3 times.
I want incontrol student
Guys just leave it every news in one way or another is a promotion... A. its a tournament.. B. Its news having to deal with a well known name in the community.. C. Its better then a new about yet another beloved event dieing or site crashing... Were a dieing game.. Our days are numbered.. Our community is slowly getting smaller.. Players retire almost weekly now... And yet there are those that still try and keep the community alive... Granted i understand Geoff has his own agendas and charges.. If he can do it and get enough guys for a tournament then so be it... fuck so many people bitch about so much... Artosis gets kawaii games vs a B teamer... means Artosis is bias to his friends (so?) Incontrol sets up a tournament for his students and gets it advertised.. AND takes the time to get coverage and shout casters..(so? Its more life in the community and means more events and more gamers.. I for one will watch the entire Dark horse tournament.. its fun seeing unknown players play..
#19 Im not bitching im just stating my opinion that's all. You saw yourself what happened to the first news about u taking money to teach people play broodwar, i was not against that at all, everyone can do whatever they want to. The thing is this looks like you want to promote ur coaching a bit further then the first news. Its just an opinion inc nothing else. Im glad ur doing something for the community and keep doing ur thing. But everyone deserves a chance to state their opinions that's what community is for, it doesn't mean its right or wrong. Dont get mad over this inc relax.
incontrol the unforgiven
To those complaining about what's newsworthy or not: If you find a news boring or not of your interest, stop reading. It's as simple as that. Do you read every page of a newspaper? I don't.
agree with #24
incontrol and his attitude is just roflmao " THIS IS NEWS WORTHY! " "IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE AND PLAY VS MY STUDENTS GIVE ME $10 " LOL! oh god i quit
lol...such a stupid tournament which will fail. When i first read the headline i was like "oh cool a new tournament". As soon as i saw it said "sponsored by incontrol" i immediately knew it had something to do with self-promoting his coaching services which is completely a waste of peoples money. I have nothing against incontrol but if players want to pay to learn this game go pay people like ret/idra/fenix/mondragon/white-ra/kolll who are really up there and 3 times better then incontrol. He is not up there with all the other strong foreigners. Besides sooner or later people will realize that they are wasting their money because you can learn this game for free. Have you any idea how many vods and replays you can download and watch / learn from them? Dont get this wrong incontrol i have nothing against u and i think if ur making money for urself by teaching newbies then its good for you. But this tournament wont have many spectators. Who wants to watch mice battle it out when you can watch lions in TSL?
The negative feedback that this post is getting is beyond me. I can't even fathom some of the blatantly naive statements on a subject that's so simple. Yes, this absolutely is newsworthy. It is an event inside the StarCraft community due to the commentary and replays and such afterwards. No, you cannot participate if you haven't had a lesson with iNcontroL. Believe it or not, that's not the end of the world. I really have to bite my tongue here in my response to these comments. Of course it's self promotion, that's not even worth pointing out, it's obvious. And what's wrong about that? The bitterness that some people feel in the SC community regarding the fact that some people pay (a small amount) to have guidance and improve at a faster pace is astounding. However, this is neither the time nor the place for that discussion. If, for whatever ridiculous reason, you take offense to this post being news, don't read it. In regards to the tournament: I think this is extremely exciting and a great opportunity to witness players we're unfamiliar with competing in StarCraft.
i wonder how much incontrol paid #28 to say that , maybe a free lesson
telecom, I'm not going to get in a back and forth argument with you, but please try and be respectful and realistic when you post. Your last comment showed nothing but aggression and resentfulness over something that many people get pleasure from. There's little reason to be on the offensive here, especially when we focus purely on the issue. So I don't think it's necessary to reiterate the points I've already made regarding that area.
why would u wanna throw a nice tournament with vods cool pictures and shit for bad d- gamers that learns from incontrol? #14 +1 i hope i dont come up as a troll here but overall i feel like this wont be interesting at all to watch. but for those who do watch it sure, have fun but i wont be watching anyway cause i think any other tour is more interesting than this idea hey enron i wanna throw a tourney btw, can u make news post? #21 actually artosis is in contact with like every top foreigner but kawai was terran and he was the only guy online when he watched to throw this game
Of course it's free advertising but it's a good idea from Geoff because everyone benefits. We get something to watch if you have a reason to, he gets more exposure and maybe students, his students get something fun and unique to them, and people who might be interested in playing or getting tutoring find out more and have an added incentive to do so. GG.net has supported less appealing news items and will support more blatant self-promotion in the future - any sponsored tournament is only about what the sponsor stands to gain it's just that the host, sponsor, admin etc. are all the one guy. If you don't agree just press back on your browser, don't read the news, don't tune in live and leave it to people who have something to get hyped about. Having said that, maybe NrG.GoD- should run SC coaching
rofl another advert for incontrol? `for only 10$ u can join` he says.. it`s clearly a way for him to make more money and u are promoting.. and the problem is that free tournaments with money get stuck in the forum, without any news, cuz it`s not incontrol`s name there..
lol less interesting pls, go write a news about every D-tour iccup does -_- completely rubbish idea and no one will watch it anyway
gg.net had changed from good site to "what incontrol done" and "artosis thoughts and his blablabla".
and what are you gonna do about it ? If you dont like it feel free to read something else.
Seriously if these news destroys your lives, then by all means go read another site?
sponsored and organized by www.polygonrevue.com posted from: Sebastian "PolygonreVue" Sjöberg
oi...I for one think it's good and a very bold marketing move...like pretty shameless but how else are you gonna get anywhere these days... but seriously... Jay-Z - Dirt Off Your Shoulders
That'll be a good event and kids should stop crying and go back to their mum... That's pretty boring to see some people talking shit on every news, just keep in mind that it is useless to leave some shitty comment. If you're not enjoying the news click on next one and so on. Anyway best of luck to Geoff with his coaching and with the tournament.
#38 LOL
#37 I dont think any, i mean any GosuCrew Admin should say something like that. Admins should care about their readers not give them a 2nd option to leave this site. Even if u might be kidding, u should not write that.
Big Fail imo
Dear Gosugamers community, It's a tournament. That will be made in a fun to view way. For a class of player that normally doesn't get this kind of attention. ........... Seeing how much negative attention this has gotten I'd like to thank you guys for making a news about it, cause I didn't notice it on any other bw site and would have missed it and might be interested in it. Which is why I come here, for news. Would you people complain if Schnibl0r made a newspost here for the TSL? It's like you are all offended that Inc might possibly benefit from something he is doing in the community...if you want e-sports to ever go anywhere some of you are going to have to realize that people need to make money off it too. And would you rather have polygonrevue just buy some add space and hit you with some annoying flashing banner? Or would you rather they host a tournament? This is how money tournaments work with sponsors.
That kind of reaction is the proof that esports will never be professional...
#44 Then this sponsor clearly knows 0 about starcraft. Otherwise the feedback on this thread would be a lot more positive. If a vast majority of the comunity don't like (or "aprove" it), then it's a fail initiative because the sponsor won't earn very much for this investment. The only thing I see sponsored here is Incontrol and his $ classes and not the tournament itself. (imo)
LOL paying money that someone who lost in 1st round TSL qualifiers coaches you?? Ok seriously... Inc can do whatever he wants and every BW tourney is a good thing. But honestly... I wonder about those who really pay him money. oO
#47 what round of the TSL tourney did you lose in? Chances are White-rA isn't taking lessons from me.. this is true. Thankfully that only leaves me 99% of the SCBW population to work with. WOAH! That was a close call!
