The final weekend of the round of 16 started out with the protoss versus protoss between TT1 and White-Ra, being the only series that went to a fifth game. Five very exciting games eventually made White-Ra advance, who will be facing another protoss in the quarterfinals, namely IefNaij.
IefNaij managed to bring down Terran in a 3-1 series, filled with reaver action and also a very interesting micro oriented third game, which was also the only game Terran made in his favor. IefNaij proxygated next to Terran's main, who also made a wall-in, and did not notice the gateways until the zealots were inside his base. But Terran managed somehow to defend himself, and take the game. After that, IefNaij secured the last game and moved on to the quarterfinals.
Ret, explaining that his reason for choosing zerg for the upcoming game was the fact that he had been practicing zerg versus zerg a lot before his third courage, and he remembered losing to CaStrO in a terran versus zerg just before he moved to Korea.
The zvz series turned out to be amazingly entertaining however, where Ret pulled the longest straw in the end, winning the set 3-1. Ret is up for another zerg versus zerg in the quarterfinals, against Sen who overran Draco in the round of 16. In an interview with Teamliquid, Mondragon claims the game will be a 50/50 chance for both of the players.
Speaking of Mondragon, the German veteran played the Dreamhack Winter 2009 champion and terran player, BRAT_OK, and another amazing series was a fact. Four games full of plague, swarm and irradiate action on a very high level made the games very entertaining, in a series that Mondragon played very well and managed to beat down the Russian 3-1. The final game showed an amusing hidden hatchery in BRAT's mineral expansion tactic, making Mondragon able to harass the terran's neutral with lurkers and hydralisks for a long period of time. The games are really worth watching, so don't miss out the VODs.
