MSL Finals: Screens went black and the game was off

Posted by Lasse "Get.Enron" Engen 2 years ago

The screens went black

The MSL finals between Jaedong and Flash was played today, but in the middle of the third game everything went black and the game was gone.

It was the third game. The scores were even at 1-1, and it was a very exciting game on Odd Eye. Both players proved that just a small mistake can turn the game around. Jaedong seemed to have an advantage until Flash did an amazingly timed attack at the 1'o clock expansion, and the game seemed to be turning in Flash's favor.
Jaedong did however an amazing job staying alive and rescuing his expansion at 7'o clock with swarms and just a few ultralisks and zerglings preventing a massive army of marines and medics from getting to the expansion.

But before the Jaedong's fight for survival by the lower left expansion was settled the screens went black. Few seconds later the lights went back on and confusion hit everyone. The game was gone.
After discussions among the referees a controversial decision was made. Due to Flash not killing off any drones or doing any sort of harm to Jaedong's economy, and Jaedong managed to kill off some Vessels who would be important to kill the defilers and for irradiating the ultralisks, Jaedong was given the win.
The question is if he really had an advantage? Discussions has it that he didn't, and it was rather Flash that had the advantage of the game. A rematch could maybe have been a better decision.

Jaedong got a massage after the announcement of him winning the game, and got ready for the next game. We're still waiting for the next game to be played, it's currently 2-1 for Jaedong.

It is said that the game is being delayed because Flash's dad is being furious about the decision, and does not let his son continue to play the match.
He was later told by the referee to let the games go on, or else it would end in a forfeit loss for Flash.

UPDATES:

As the fourth game begins the rumors are the power outage was due to a problem with the facility's heater.

The fourth game finished fast, mutalisks and zerglings settled the game, as well as the MSL title for Jaedong, though in a very tragic way for Flash. This series will be remembered.

In the post series interview, Jaedong told us how badly he had wanted to get his 5th league win and that he knew it would be an important day.
- "It doesn't feel real yet, but I'm happy. My team and coaches have devoted a lot of time to prepare me for this match. Thanks to my fans for supporting me too."

When Flash was given his turn for input he spoke briefly and calmly.
- "There were many fans here, and I feel I wasn't able to show my best today. I also want to congratulate Jaedong for winning today."

Despite the controversy, Flash handled the situation with poise and respect, proving to all of us that he may be beaten, but he is not broken.

yeah a rematch would have been the best option, jaedong wouldn't have wanted to win like that would have been better for us to see a rematch, poorly handled imo

Are they complete amateurs??

I cant in my wildest imagination believe that they dont have UPSes wired to those computers.

It doesnt even cost more than the computer, and they would have just kept playing, not even taking note to the power blackout.

In my work we have UPSes wired to computers that are much less important than this.

Its like they are having a little LAN tournament in someones basement, and someones little sister is unplugging the cord.

"Oh shit, stupid girl. Dont do it next game please"

This was extremely unprofessional and stupid.
There must be demonstrations in korea right now.

Btw, i think because it wasnt any of the players fault this shit happened it would be most fair to do anything BUT judge in favour for JD.

Like extend finals to BO 7 or regame on diffrent map or just regame.
Anything would be better than settle the win to JD.

I'm not a fan of Flash. I admire him, that's about it.
I'm always rooting for JD, his style is so powerful you just can't take your eyes off the screen when he plays :)

The reason why I think the 3rd game should've been re-played is that JD didn't have the game won, simple as that. Advantage advantage, I don't give a damn. It's almost like when the game is pretty much a draw but the admin forces both players to attack each other just to bring out a winner. It's a draw ffs, don't manipulate the outcome. FFS. That kind of BS is so stupid, I can't even word it right.
If the game isn't over, it isn't over. JD wasn't ahead by more than 75% as I see it. 75% is a lot but it's not the whole world. We all have seen crazier comebacks from more hopeless situations, haven't we? No? Well, I certainly have. A lot.

But who cares, it's over. Dumb decision making, bad organization, shitty hardware preparation. Just BS all the way. MBC sucks.

The lose happend with this power incident. The decision was imo the lesser worse option out of all available options and what Ret said reads reasonable to me. He is a great ZvT Player aswell he was a great TvZ player.

There is no real "regame" possible. In this whole series the maps were more or less favoring the T. Now you have all this long time of preparation how you want to enter the situation and overcome possible disadvantages on this and that map, you watch all the replays and openings of your opponent and you practice this over and over again with your teammates. All this mindgames where you risk 2 times in a row 3 hatch before pool though Flash could try a bunkerrush.. Then you end up happy in a game where you have clearly an advantage in the end and then just regame like nothing happens and come of with a new strategy out of your magic hat?

there is no real "regame" possible in this situation after you reveal your opening and specific strategy for this map. all the first mindgames are gone for nothing..

so a regame in that situation would have been in no way a fairer decision. the fail accured with the incident and is all about this power incident.

roflmao thx for the kiddie mr kiddo... I stated my arguements way before ur iterations.. read the thread before posting such painfulness.

But i will repeat myself for the handicapped between us:

I DONT CARE WHO HAD AN ADVANTAGE!( u dont need to be a "top player" to see that JD had an advantage but not the win till the crash. so the game wasnt over. NO GG or anything simliar.)

FOR THE GAME(+us the fans) AND THE FAIRNESS(it was no fault of any of the players!) THE GAME SHOULD BE REPLAYED

and im sry for ur blinker-thinking in preparing for strategies...if u r pro u have at least a plan B, C or D. they played the maps a lot more often. anything else would be narrow-minded, dont you think ? So ur "arguement" bout using a strategy twice or have a disadvantage is nonsense and a pro should be flexible bout that.

Again i have to say before acting urself up read the thread. i dont want to repeat myself again and again to every slow-worm what i already wrote. thx

"roflmao thx for the kiddie mr kiddo"
you understood that I named your "BS BS.." sentence kiddie shit and not you as a person, yes?

"anything else would be narrow-minded, dont you think ? So ur "arguement" bout using a strategy twice or have a disadvantage is nonsense and a pro should be flexible bout that."

this has nothing to do with missing of flexibility or even beeing narrow minded. progamers like jaedong and flash are just such high skilled and close to eachother that every mistake or not sharped move / bo can be a decider and ofc that strategy x with x preparationtime has not the same efficiency as y or z. especially on a map which more favors the other race, your options are more limited and you are the one who has more to ccme up with something tricky/risky as if the opposite would be the case. even progamers are stating that a better preparation and a other set of maps can mean a different outcome on that level.

anyways i leave you now with your own idea of progaming conditions and fairness. i cant take this kind of internet ranting post like yours are reminding me serious anyway. maybe you should just take some fresh air and leave this whole case for good.

Nice way of fucking up the finals MBC...
No matter if it was a rematch or JD win it would have still been unfair, ref. desc. is unfair against flash and rematch if unfair against JD (who did have a good lead). No matter how you look at it, its just MBC fucking up one of the few real bw-treats in the year.
