Venue site reveals date for World Cyber Games

Posted by Patrik "Raistlin" Hellstrand 2 years ago

The grand finals of World Cyber Games will be held early this year. That is, should the Los Angeles Convention Center website calendar be correct.

Previous years has had the olympic spirited tournament in November as opposed to this year's September. Players and teams from around the world will gather in Los Angeles for the 10-year anniversary of World Cyber Games.

National qualifiers are scheduled to begin in March.

13# I think there's a misunderstanding here, if you voted for Dota on WCG they must have it. Send them a mail or something.

the problem with dota is its not a "real" game that WCG can get a license to use... its a modified UMS of WC3 thats why i dont think we will see WCG supporting Dota..

@ #18 even i used to think the same way as u, but the number of users for DotA are more than normal WC3, and many more useless games in WCG :P

definitely gonna drive the 6 hours to get there. gonna be a good damn time. party + wcg + party + wcg + party + wcg

p.s. dota should not be in WCG for multiple reasons. its not balanced being the #1 and #21 made a good point.

dota probs has way more users than normal war3 atm and nvm its not a game by itself it can also be played and i rly hope they think of that at least for another year or smth since its not the skill which truly dota doesnt require as much as war3 etc but the fighting spirit and the crowd. so more pple like it more cash its gona bring so they just gona add it i hope ... thats my opinion at least ...

If WCG Asia can have dota, I don't see any reason why this WCG can't have it.

Seriously, we all know that the playerbase of DotA is far greater than of Warcraft III. Apart from that, don't forget that the number of really shitty games at WCG is shocking, so I don't see why DotA can't absolutely be at WCG. It doesn't have to be the most exposed game, or whatever, but if they include it, then it would mean a big change.

Do we really have to wait for Frogboy + Valve Dota 2.0?

The fact that WCG doesnt have dota, is probably the reason why WCG lost so much popularity in the last couple of years.

Most people are like "Wtf is WCG?!" these days.
About the skill thing about WAR3 RTS And dota, its pretty much irelevant since a Dota Player can play decent (and i mean decent, not pro) WAR3 RTS, yet a War3 RTS player, would have to start from scratch on dota.
If it werent for Shaman (Romanian Starcraft player) who made a tradition in attending WCG, i wouldnt have heard of it to be honest.
As popularity, in my oppinion, even the lame competitions like Dota League's Cup is more popular than WCG.
All stated here is my own oppinion so please dont hate.
