G7 Teams: Fighting for the Gamers

Posted by Arnab "AP()ll()_TTFU" Ghosal 2 years ago

The G7 Teams have collaborated with the e-sports community to take action against companies who have yet to pay their promised prize money. The teams may resort to legal action against the accused companies if compromise is not reached.

In September G7 Teams had communicated with the e-sports community to submit any claims for unpaid prize winnings. According to the numerous e-mails received by the teams in just two weeks it was found out that a total of $355,208 in prize money was missing from different organizers such as the CPL, ESWC and GGL / Clanbase. The G7 has thus decided to take action by contacting the organizations in debt and applying to them on behalf of the e-sports community to pay the promised prize money to the players.

Till date G7 has approached CPL, which was recently bought by an Abu Dhabi based investment company; ESWC, which recently filed for bankruptcy and has since been re-purchased by DIP Communications, and GGL / Clanbase, which is being sued by Game Hosting for unpaid server hosting bills, which together add up to over $274,000 in claims. The responses from ESWC has been vague and hence the teams have decided to continue to reach out to each organization, notify current partners, start online petitions, and explore legal routes in an attempt to bring resolution to the issue. The teams have appealed to the e-sports community to boycott their ongoing activities with the aforementioned organizations until they engage in constructive discussions with G7 to investigate and resolve the community's claims.

Organizations like the WCG and KODE5 which has paid out millions of dollars to gamers around the world, do not have any significant open claims. G7 is also encouraging the companies like ESL who are trying to pay the outstanding prize money.

The e-sports community is confident that everything which was not achieved by the gamers working solo will be achieved by the collective and coordinated efforts of the G7 teams along with the community.

Not a good sign for the gaming community. Majority of conflicts happening in the gaming community is caused by money. Sad how money affects everything now.
Hope that these guys pay them. Losing talented players(quitting competitive gaming) due to money problems is just plain sad.

Players have right to get their money but, e-sport is such a poor business market, there is nothing to earn with the small pricez players get from winning tournaments. If they paid them they would file for bankruptcy a lot sooner

Um, referring to the gaming organizations that owe money as 'greedy bastards' is not fit for news, especially when trying to set standards. There may be some of those (who should be called differently in official news copy), but it may also be that it's just a matter of poorly run business.

This is really sad. Players should be paid as promised... yet again, another reason why e-sports aren't taken as seriously as they should.

Great. So many esport companies seem to be just fantasies where the owners get the economy to work in their own head and just ignore when it does not work out, it's sad really.

I hope as many as possible get paid, it's good that some organizations can deliver. When the large tournaments cant pay players anymore a dear part of esports will die ...
