Karune Answers to Rumors

Posted by Lasse "Get.Enron" Engen 2 years ago

A rumor has been lurking around in most of the Starcraft II forums lately; Battle.net 2.0 will have a monthly fee. Karune has now answered to the rumors in a thread at the Battle.net forums, and declines the rumors, and says that nothing has changed.

Starcraft2.pro recently informed us, based on a "trusted", yet unknown source, that
- "Battle.net 2.0 will charge us with a monthly fee like in World of Warcraft". This is however not true. Blizzard has been repeatedly saying that they won't charge us for using Battle.net 2.0, but the rumors would not stop. In GosuGamers' own Starcraft II forums the discussion has been going on for quite some time now as well, but Karune has now answered to the rumors, and he had this to say when GosuGamers asked them in their official forums at Battle.net;

As mentioned before, players will be able to use Battle.net for free when they purchase the full version of StarCraft II. There have been no changes to this.

- Karune

This led again to further speculations, where the concerned fans of Blizzard asked if they had to purchase all of the three StarCraft II games, and Karune had this to say:
- "lol - here is one simple scenario: When you buy StarCraft II from the store, you will be able to play on Battle.net for free. This is not a temporary trial of Battle.net. Not purchasing the full version would include any illegal method of attaining software. In that case, you would not be able to get on Battle.net".

So there you have it. There won't be any monthly fee for Battle.net 2.0, except for the World of Warcraft players. If you want some new screenshots of the upcoming new Battle.net platform to celebrate with, follow this link to Starcraftwire.net. They are worth a look.

#1 its not news, its olds :P

There will always be lots of trolls who will spread stupid rumors. Read only what officials write (this includes interviews and reports from Blizz's events from COMPETENT sites) and nothing more.

Sounds all well and good but if I don't have SC2 maximised will how will I know my friend are trying to get me to game unless I add them to my msn or something outside of SC2. I hope they make a Bnet thing for use in windows or something.

Looking at the SS's
Makes me see 2 things.
-There are a LOT of games created in the "join game" ss, knowing that it's not even in beta yet.
-Dustin Browder The lead designer of SC2, wants to play WoW.

No monthly fee = in-game or at least in-chat advertisements, which is fine by me as long as that money is put into making Battle.net 2.0 functional and stable (and not only buying a new Dodge Viper for Dustin Browder). That is a better revenue model, and so these are very good news. GG to that!

Good news? OLD news! Blizzard always says there will be no monthly fee, but idiots keep saying opposite.

oh. I see that #10 said the same, but faster...

"There are currently 10,296 users playing 679 games of Starcraft II" ...
"Your last login: Monday, June 29, 2:35 PM" <--(From the "dashboard" ss)

No wonder there's no beta, the game were ready for release months ago... The entire SC2 crew, however, is too busy playing to even care...

#23 = Best Canadian 2v2er

If we have to pay for Battle.net.. there not gonna be alot of activeness, cause all of the geeks will be working part-time somewhere just to keep there skill up :)
