The Future of ESI

Posted by Lasse "Get.Enron" Engen 1 year ago

In order for ESI to continue, they need more dependable admins, support from the teams participating and sponsors.

Yenta, the head-administrator of Esports International has posted a thread in Teamliquid's forums concerning a Season 3 of the league. The future of Esports International is uncertain, and they need more motivated and realiable admins to continue. The participating teams must also give their support, with or without sponsors. Asking more than 30 companies for sponsorship, Yenta got response from only Razer and one unnamed site, and they both rejected the offer. In other words, ESI don't have any sponsors for the next season so far, and no sponsors means no prizes, other than pride, for the top teams.

Along with the bad, it is good to note that ESI has grown to be a pretty fun and well liked league. I think by turning to the community for help, by finding the right set of admins, and by dropping the ESPORTS mentality - ESI has the potential to continue for many seasons to come.
- Yenta.

He explains further that in order for the league to continue he needs people who are motivated and trustworthy, so he can work on the coding only, which is, according to himself, what he does best. So if anyone out there with some experience feels motivated to help out Yenta, ESI, and a great contribution to the Starcraft community, don't hesitate to raise your voice and contact the ESI administration.

If ESI continues, the qualified teams for the Premier Divison of ESI Season 3 are:

ESI Premier Divison Season 3
Playoff Teams:
1. China Fnatic.MSI
2. Europe Templars of Twilight
3. Germany ESC.ICY-BOX
4. United States eXpertise
5th/6th Place Teams:
5. Spain Los Reyes del Mambo (replaced Sky Gaming)
6. Poland Zajebiscie Zjebany Zespol
Qualifiers:
7. Czech Republic Riders on the Storm
8. Germany Innocent Holy Freaks
9. France Not Allowed
10. Sweden Team BW

ESL has attention enough, many people who play leagues there pay for it and most of them are german - thats no wonder cauz:

first it was DECL (deutsche clan liga = german clan league), then ähmmm something like ESL but with 4 letters, and now ESL

maybe in some years they will cast in different languages, but currently they casting in the language of the country, from which most users pay for it

I ve already explained to Yenta my vision about the future of Starcraft esports. Dreams of generous dotators are over. In my opinion there aren't others issues that pay to play with a similar method of poker. Something like 100€ by team to sign up will garantee a prize pool minimum of 1000€ for this event.
Then you can purpose videocasts in differents languages for people in exchange of a little money. What about something like 10€ by season?

There is not many team that can pay 100€ for sure :/

But right now, how many people can you find who will fork over that money? Most teams know they can't win, so why would they pay to join the league? They need to keep it free if they want any team other than ESC, ToT, or Fnatic to join.

And I explained to you that this is basically impossible. For one, Xeris tried to organize a league in this way and even the TOP teams laughed at the idea of having to pay-to-play. Its exactly this kind of money-mentality, thinking about the $$$ before thinking about the event, that ruins events.

one question, which clan wouldnt play the league wtihout price money? i think ESi about prestige not about getting rich

#20 You would be able to find it. Teams with enormous financial potential like mTw, SL, D4, EG, or RoX might participate.

#21 There are always winners and loosers...

#23 Imo that's the only point to keep eSports running. Ofc you can go on this league for free but what will be the difference with TL, ICCL or BWCL? This ESI will just become another league between a ton of similar events... imo there is no interest except to offer the possibility of playing vs ToT or Fnatic.

i believe there are not many teams willing to play Fnatic, because of their lag ... maybe on LAN it would be interesting, but if it's via internet, no fun with them.

#24 -> 21 ofc there are always winners and lossers, but there is like max. 5 teams that can win the league, so why would the others pay their prizes?
