Buying the game For a number of years I have been loving 3 main games, Starcraft, Counterstrike and the Command and Conquer series. Now there are 2 additions in the past 2 weeks, DotA and Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. When I saw the release on EA Link, I decided to go into my local Game shop to buy the game and was told that they will not have it until friday as EA are reserving it on EA Link for pre-loading and demo only, so I asked him, is it worth pre-ordering. As usual I got the great jargon of "if you pre-order we guranatee to have a copy of the game", "we have nearly sold out pre-orders" etc etc and as usual I was thinking "hmm, O RLY?" but I went ahead and pre-ordered it anyway, and how glad I was, I was number 67 on the pre-order list, they had 80 reserved for pre-order and another 30 copies for sale to the public without pre-ordering. I turned up this morning to Game to pick up my pre-order and saw a queue and thought "hell, what's going on" so I got in the back and 15 minutes later I was at the front, after hearing all the people in the queue talking about Command and Conquer, I didn't think it was this big! I got to the front and go my pre-ordered copy and whilst paying asked a few questions like "how many copys do you have left" etc and to my supprise he showed me his empty cabinet behind him, with only 5 pre-orders left to pick up and 3 copys of public release. So I went to the office which was my main destination anyway. @ Work Whilst at work I was tempted by the shiny new case which I knew contained a brillient game that I couldn't wait to play, however I had a few hours to work yet, and then some time to do for GosuGamers.net which was delayed so that I could test this game out. Patrick turned up so I showed him the shiny box, and said "look" and he was like "hmm, I see you're game, and raise you a kebab" but the game lasts longer ;) Installing So I re-jigged time etc etc so that I could start the game install, and wow did EA amaze me..... with their usual crappy install process. As usual I couldn't pick where my start menu icons would go, but that's not too much of a problem as i'll just drag drop them to their new location, nor could I chose whether to isntall a quick launch or desktop icon. So what did it install? Well to my amazement it was sensible and put it's links in my EA Games menu, it installed a single game link on my desktop, but no quick launch? I would have said no if they had asked but still! I like the option to decline. The install shield booted up and it's the typical EA don't show me any images or keep me entertained whilst it install, so I just went and did other work, I do not watch paint dry, nor an EA game install. After installation I was amazed that it didn't ask me to reboot, nearly every game/program does but oh well I never reboot, rebooting is for silly people or when you install drivers, not games. Patching As I was keeping up to date with the Command and Conquer scen I already knew there was a patch out for the game so I was considering my options, play without the patch or patch first. I decided to patch first, so I booted the game up as it was advertised to include an update system. When I booted the game first it loaded up a "Control Center" which has the following options: "Play" "Check for Updates" "Readme" "Visit Website" "Quit" Then an arrow to bring up a second set of menus instead containing: "Technical Support" "Set Language" "Replay Browser" "Game Trailers" "Uninstall" Thinking about it I was trying to work out why they didn't put the "Set Language" and "Replay Browser" in the first set of menus, and move the "Readme" and "Visit Website" to the second menu, as these functions are less used. So I thought yet's update then, and clicked "Check for Updates" and it flicked through a quick screen which is obviously where it checks, and then returned to me saying "There are patches available, do you wish to download?" "Yes/No" so I clicked "Yes" as well as allowing the program through my firewall, however as usual the update failed. This led me to turning off my firewall and trying, but still failed so firewall back on and off I go to find a patch on a website. I found one here: http://www.commandandconquer.com/community/patches/default.aspx Whilst downloading the 21.5meg patch I looked through some of the EA forums and found that many people were having problems with the updating and online game play, and an incredibly funny thread about someone demanding 1/2 his money back within a week if the game is not fixed (http://forums.ea.com/mboards/thread.jspa?sls=2&tstart=0&threadID=201043) which I agree with but $30 will not scare EA into making any updates like he hopes. There are also a few stickys already posted about video/audio sync errors, online gameplay errors and vista driver errors. Official EA support forums: http://forums.ea.com/mboards/forum.jspa?sls=2&forumID=2381 So in conclusion I'm now off to try the game out and see what it's like there will be another blog post up soon with updates on how I think it performs etc. Patch Updates ============================================ Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars(tm) Version 1.02 Patch Notes - March 29, 2007 ============================================ This patch for Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars addresses two issues: Bug Fixes · Fixed an error that caused the list of available matches in the Custom Match Lobby to constantly refresh to the top of the list. Well how wrong was I when I thought that the release would be smooth, it's been all but smooth. All I wish for is that users are happy that we are constantly updating the Carrier, Today was mine and Mazor's only real day off since Carrier began and I didn't even get a full day off ;) Mazor was sensible and went away from his computer and town. Well as for Carrier, In it's current state it generates some complaints each day but we are constantly updating to try and bring this number down, for example the error with reporting/cancelling games. All I ask of you, the visitor to the site is to test the carrier and suggest any changes that you think could be good. Back to work I suppose, this was Volmasoft posting yet another blog.

What is the art of confusion? Do mysterys intrigue people? or create annoyance? Why do people poke their noses into other people's business? Does it make them happy? Does it furfil some kind of inner pleasure? Why do people hype themselfs up? Why is it people act like they know more than they really know and are able to do more than they really can?

I never saw any major changes to gg.net when I wasn't a team member, However having worked closely with Mazor I see the effort he pours into the gg.net and i'm proud to work with him and help him with his updates. The latest are the navigational updates which I love however we haven't received much feedback from the users yet which is abit dismaying as we need to make sure our users like our changes. There are a few more changes 'up out sleeves' so to speak and I am proud to be working so closely with Mazor on the updates. I hope you all enjoy the site.
