Done January 16th, 2010 ![]() We'll start with the basics, please introduce yourself! My name is Marcin Nowak, 21 years old, living in Lódz, Poland. I've been playing SC since the beginning, but made some serious decisions about it like 3 years ago. I'm studying econometric at the University of Lódz for 3 years now. Kind of funny how you can use statistics and so in StarCraft. You go by the handle "kogeT" at the moment, how/when and why did you pick this ID? Funny story. My brother used to be a big Manga/Anime fan, so when I was like 10-11 years old, I used to read some of his comics. There was one with a guy named "kagetsu", so I changed it to "kogetsu", and then it evolved to "koget" as a shorter and easier name to use via internet. I assume the one with the guy named "Kagetsu" was your favorite comic at that time? Do you still read any comic books? He wasn't really a favorite. Just a random guy with a funny name, lol. As a kid you don't have to like something that much to take its name. As for the comic books, I haven't read any for about 10 years. So what does an average day in the life of iG.kogeT look like? I have lived with my girlfriend for almost a month now and it seems like the happiest time for me. In fact, I spend less time playing now but I like it, lol. I've also been a classical guitarist for quite a long time. I have had some students before, but now I only do it for fun. I'm just a regular guy; girlfriend, studying, starcraft + some extra hobbies like playing guitar, music, cooking and skiing. When and why did you first start playing guitar? And why the classical genre? I started to play guitar after I promised it to a girlfriend about 7 years ago. I never thought that it would of lead me to this point. I've kind of been a music freak ever since. I listened only to music like jazz/flamenco/classical. I'm a type of a guy who loves to raise his skill level alone. What I mean is, I never liked it when there was something or someone helping me more than what I could do by myself. As to guitar, it's like I can play anytime and everywhere, without a pick, energy or whatever. Same thing with cooking. I never use already cooked things or mixed spices. I always do things from the very basics to understand them perfectly, and to know how to do all of this without any sort of help. And about your live-in girlfriend. How long have you guys been together and does she do any of the hobbies you do for fun also? Does she like StarCraft? She's a progamer in mahjong and pasians. We've been together for 2 years, and she's quite known in the polish scene as she has gone with me to some tournaments. About her, she understands that Starcraft is somehow important to me, so even if she doesn't like it very much, she's ok with it. All in all, she is familiar with computer games. What games did you play before StarCraft? And how did you first discover StarCraft? I've been playing RTS games my whole life. First it was Warcraft 2, KKND, Z and many other small-demo games. When StarCraft was released in 1997, I knew I had to get it, I had it like 2 weeks later. Playing nothing but computer games for 3 or 4 years was great! If you were to try and explain the game of StarCraft to somebody who has no idea what it is, what would you say? GosuGamers motto seems perfect: "A minute to learn, a lifetime to master". Most of my friends know that im a gamer, so I've had to explain it many times. However, I get really enthusiastic talking about the game, so I would probably write an entire essay to just explain a little bit about it... What makes StarCraft so special even after so many years of playing it? Why not move on to something new that's better and prettier? Definitely the scene and competition. It's always not to play the game better, but to play better than the rest. You don't want to move away from something you have done for so many years if you know you can do it better. Also, money has now started to appear, so it's even more fun. How would you describe your StarCraft career to us? Started playing on Battle.net in 2001 or 2002 I believe. Firstly, I stayed for a long time on original SC, playing with friends all the time. As I switched to Brood War and NetCraft (the Polish server), people started to recognize me. Quite fast, I jumped through all the best Polish teams, playing many offline and online tournaments. I always got top spots in Polish leagues and tournaments, but I never really played in any international leagues. I think iG. is my biggest achievement in regards to international clan wars. The Past 2 years, I managed to win a bunch of tournaments, and qualified to almost all leagues out there. For example: ASL, TSL, ESL. How would you describe your style and your strengths and weaknesses? Not that easy to define my style. It changes very often, I used to play by my mind a lot, not really copying Koreans or other players. Sometimes its aggressive, other times it's defensive. It is all dependent on the map, match-up, opponent, and my attitude lol. My biggest weakness would be a lack of regular constant practice. I never get used to mass-play iCCup or other mass-gaming systems a lot. (not meaning ASL or TSL qualifiers) You have been on fire for the past few months defeating almost everybody in your path. Which of your recent or old victories are you most proud of? I'm not really proud of winning vs a certain player. I like to see the whole picture, so it would be a small thing like winning Rymarov(LanCraft). However, I'm very sad I couldn't make it farther than top8 WCG PL, and now I lost to XiaOzi in the TSL. About the loss to XiaOzi in the Teamliquid StarLeague, what do you think happened there? Is he simply a better player, was it luck, were nerves too much for you? "No Comment" You have gotten many invites to better teams and have been offered some pretty nice deals from well sponsored teams yet you still remain with Infernal Gamers. What makes you stay and play for iG? Umm, Tarson is my bitch, right? Would you consider yourself the best player in iG. at the moment? If not, who do you think is the best in iG? No way I could be the best in iG. I have just showed some stable results lately, but wasn't able to do much more. I had my style change a lot lately, so I'm not too sure about many aspects of game, which makes me quite an easy opponent if you know how to play. Lol, no answer for 2nd question. In regards to BW where do you see yourself in the near and far future? Do you plan on switching to SC2? I'm getting a little tired of the game, playing only when I really want to. No mass gaming or practice partners. I don't have any plans for SC2, so if it comes out, I'll probably quit or become an old-fun 3v3 and ums player. Well thank you for your time! Do you have any last words/shoutouts or whatever you wish to end the interview with? Thank you Zeep! I would like to thank anyone who has ever cheered me during my league matches, and I send a big kiss to my GF, and all of you iG freaks! Original Source: www.MyInfernal.com

Done November 15th, 2009 Many people outside or rather new to the StarCraft world and even within Infernal Gamers, do not really know who or what is "BinGBonG" and why he holds the title of "CEO" in this great organization. Now is your chance to finally read the story behind the most important Dutchman in our organization. ![]() I guess we'll start with the basics, plz introduce yourself and tell us what your history with Infernal Gamers is. Hi I am Bennie Ars, CEO and somewhat founder of Infernal Gamers, basically I started in iG. to form a Korean/West Server squad for it. I started it up on west with Kimwanchul also known as the zerg which defeated slayers`boxer`3-2 in Game-i finals and the Neo-gamei season winner. After some time when WGTour just started to make their own ladder, Infernal Gamers started to grow as a team in skill level because of this and people started to pay attention to us. Sadly enough the head leader at that time " iG.Sgravo" made a lot of promises to gamers which he never fulfilled. To make a long story short, people choose me as their new leader and wanted to go on with me, because I didn't promised them money but could offer them good practice conditions with progamers and they would win the money themselves in tournaments or WCG. Later on I had a really long history in cleaning Infernal Gamers name from a money mercenary team to a nice organization with stable gamers who stayed with us for the community, gamers, tourneys we organized and of course the great gaming conditions in Infernal Gamers. This probably happened around 2002-2004, later on we started to get fans and our site started running well. A lot of WCG winners and players joined us like EX, Arcneon, KaaZ, Strelok, Enemy, Sarens, Escape, even Korean WCG gamers like zergstory the winner of world WCG Ogogo. And a lot of progamers like V-Gundam, DArkelf, Sayonara[name], velocity so we did grow like a real great gaming community. You go by the handle "BinGBonG", how/when and why did you pick this ID for you? This is a really mean question because a lot of people ask me this many times and I have told about 200 different stories about it to make it interesting haha. Well I started StarCraft in 1998 and I was known as HoRnY:)Reaver (HoRnY:) was a clan made by me and former iG. member iG.Gwolla, I named myself like that because I thought reavers would be great in any matchup and a horny one shooting bullets.. well... dangerous stuff.. but in 2000 it wasn´t allowed anymore to use this type of characters and I really needed a new nickname for myself. Because it was always on my mind and someday I got really crazy, I came up with the nickname BinGBonG, and also I like my doorknob which makes that sound since forever... (and sometimes I feel like a doorknob) lol... Anyways, later on the name seemed really popular by Koreans, it was also as a joke of course but later on DArkelf started using iG.BonG and fOru iG.KongKonG and kimwanchul iG.PinGPonG and a former SXT member iG.BinG. Also a lot of "random Koreans" started using the name on the west server. So I never changed it because basically everyone knew me by that name. But most people just think I am a fan of the bingbong cartoon or I play ping-pong or whatever! So what does an average day in the life of iG.BinGBonG look like? It really depends on the day, basically I go to the university 8 am until I am finished (I try to do my homework right after school), I mostly finish with that at around 3 pm then I go check out everything that happens related to infernal-Gamers and try to manage everything on the different community sites. Requests from a lot of gamers to join as new talents, or analyzing replays from members to find out the mistakes in their gaming styles. So I also function as a coach in the team. And I try to find out what the opponent team progresses are, and which lineups they use, and who wins who, etc.. after I am done with all that it's usually time to have dinner. After dinner I go do Cross-fitness or Muay Thai everyday for about 2 hours. Then I will login to b.net and start making matches for our gamers and follow there progress to find out which line up based on the matchups I gotta use in the next clanwar. Besides that I make time for my girlfriend if she is coming over. or I will go to her of course! And I also try to brew my own beer once every 2 weeks! Muay Thai... Do you do this for self-defense or just for fun? When did you first start? Well basically I started doing sports pretty young and started up with judo but after some time when I won a local tourney where I wasn't really supposed to win because they where supposed to have a lot more skills and experience I thought wtf is the point in learning this then? So I quit it and I had always done weight lighting in my school where we did it every week and 2 times boxing (I sat in a pretty criminal school basically with only guys sadly enough). I never had the feeling I needed self defense since I was already a lot stronger then the average kid when I was 8. Anyway to make long story short, the style muay thai I started in 2007 and I do it for fun but before that I did a similar thing which just had another name. Also, I had a big car accident in the car of iG.Gwolla which caused me 2 years of therapy to recover so in that time I didn't do any sports beside trying to recover. And I also broken my hand once in 3 places in a match of boxing which caused me 6 months of recovery. This girlfriend of yours is made of plastic or is she imaginary? Tell us a little bit about her and this "relationship" of yours? Haha you basterd! Well basically I met her a little bit over a year ago on the 25th of October. She really adds something to my life and I really like her. Basically she came into my life when I had a really rough time with my mom... and she didn't ditch me. I live @ Breda and she lives in Eindhoven which is like 60 miles from each other and I am really busy with school and stuff and she does health-care for people. So I only see her for 2-3 days in the week. So long we will not live together. Basically we are both party animals, we like to go out to music events or to the city. She is also really into sports like me so that makes a good combo, only thing we really have nothing similar in is taste in food. Since she always eats the opposite of what I like. So when we stand in the supermarket we always want different things! Maybe because I like red meat a lot and she likes fish. We also got the same dark humor and jokes which is fun. Up until a few months ago, you where pretty inactive. And you have gone inactive for quite long periods of time even before that also, what makes you go in and out of activity like that? Girlfriends? No, 6 years ago my mom got skin cancer. Up until 1.5 year ago everything was just fine. But then I came back from work and she told me she had brain cancer. I got really depressed and I felt really bad for a couple of weeks. But one day I woke up and thought we really should keep fighting and had some hope against her disease. It wouldn't be fair to give up on her so long as she doesn't do that herself. Then we needed to wait for 3 weeks basically to hear whether my mother would die in a really short time or that they where going to do surgery that would bring us slim chances again. The surgeon said that he could do surgery but only if we really insist because he told us even if he gets the tumor from the size from a orange out, it would still be a really small part of the problem. Since we didn't feel we had any other choice we made the choice for surgery. After 4 weeks the surgery was done successfully against all odds. In this period I met my girlfriend. After 6 months I saw my mom walking and she hit her leg on our table and at that point I knew enough. Since the position where the last tumor was also caused disorientation and stuff like that. My mom went to a neurologist and made scans of her brain. When we came for the results the neurologist said everything was probably alright. But 2 days later we got a call that they used the wrong scans and they made a big mistake. The tumor was back in the size of an orange again. And they told us the only options where radiation and chemotherapy now, but for her kind of cancer it could only make her live a few months longer. My brother and I started calling every hospital in the world for a good treatment but sadly enough there was none in the world. In 5 months my mom got slowly paralyzed everyday little by little until she couldn't move anymore, not to go to the toilet or whatever, her wish was to die in our home. I quit the last 6 months of school and took care of her in day and my dad @ night. With a lot of the help of the family this worked out. She stopped breathing July 15th 2AM 2009 with me, my gf, my brother, my dad, and her best friend around her. 8 months later I ran Brood War for the 1st time again and saw that somehow our team survived my absence because of iG.Shadow and you and I slowly got more interest again. And here I am now. During all that I quit life pretty much, not just BroodWar. After such a traumatic experience, why even bother coming back to gaming and StarCraft at all? Basically all my mom wanted was to live with us and she fought hard to stay with us to take care of us, but she couldn´t and her last wish was for me to enjoy life and try to live how I used to live. Since iG. is my child I am still here to take care for it, though I wont game anymore, I do a lot of things beside SC, I enjoy more the people in starcraft or in infernal-gamers then I enjoy any game. Also in my real life I enjoy people. and i still visit a lot of friends who also all take care of me in hard times! iG.Kaaz is for me in the internet a really important guy and I see him as one of my friends like "real life friends" and SW-slayer (aka iG.Jurri aka old iG mascot) from StarCraft is now actually a real life friend for me, he is coming over this Saturday. And in the future I hope to meet more people by lan or so. What games did you play before StarCraft? And how did you first discover StarCraft? I use to play Dune, and I started with a 286 where I played mortal kombat on it and turtles after that I started Zelda and stuff like that then dune, then red alert, and I think diablo or stacraft( iG.Gwolla) did set me up with this addictive game, we played like 2000 BGH games he had a room with 3-4 pc's. Gwolla had more experience with internet games, he was world champion in Netstorm. Anyway, after 1 year of playing BGH on the internet I also started low money maps where I met in 1999 people like hasudrone (NTT), assmeal, and the frenchmen {ownz}rom, he taught me bw for 2 months or so then I was able to match him basically. I also met bundy aka iG.Bundy during this time. I then started playing on west where I met a korean girl who invited me into her clan (this is the point where my real addiction came) I couldn't understand how perfect those players where playing in the clan manner) but later on I discovered that hanmimogirl was the girlfriend of kimwanchul and I discovered that all his friends where full progamers also and I was just a random foreinger noob. But I didnt play much other games, I also played Unreal Tournament 2000 alot. If you were to try and explain the game of StarCraft to somebody who has no idea what it is, what would you say? It is like playing chess, but then you make 4-10 actions a second instead of having 1 hour the time for a few settings the variety is incredible. When you start StarCraft it is just a fun game but in the end it is really a top sport, even 1 glass of alcohol will ruin your game in the high levels. You gotta practice a lot until your hands can do what your mind wants them to do, but when the day comes where you can literally do everything your mind can come up with is the day you can do something wonderful what you cannot experience in "normal life". Which is direct contact of your brains with each other and breaking your enemy with your thoughts and when you finish 30 minutes later in a perfect game your all sweaty and exhausted. And the feeling of triumph after you practiced for all those hours is awesome. Since you've been around forever, what changes in the BroodWar scene have stood out the most for you? Well I never forget the day the replays came, and there where 2 slayers at that time, slayer from Norway who was like the best terran in europe and slayers`boxer, and I was looking @ a replay of slayer and i thought..... is this the best player in the world? Then I saw a replay of slayers boxer and I was like WTF WAS THAT? In that replay he basically did the dropship trick and killed 4 goons with 2 tanks but after he went to a cliff with 2 vults and 1 tank and took it, but let like 3 goons explode with a mine but loaded everything up while the mine was exploding and lost nothing. So basically when the replays came everyone who was good suddenly understood how you should game. So which stood out the most for me was for sure the introduction of replays. Then the season of WGTour where all the progamers joined and we played iG. vs POS and we almost won the clanwar. We lost finally with a 4-5 score and julyzerg had won 2-1 vs abnormalfish in the end, otherwise iG. would of won a proteam out of Korea. Basically before the replays nobody knew wtf was going on and someone who thought of a good tactic would do great. After that everything got for awhile really fun since you could see what everyone was doing, but the variety was gone and nowadays you got a lot of mass gamers who copy the replays and don't think or know why they're doing this tactic, which is worrying me a bit.In the past people with protoss use to not build observers because it wasn't neccesary. 1 storm was killing a lurker, so the upgrade of starcraft which made storm less effective was a big deal for me also. ok so: 1 - replays 2 - storm got less effective 3 - reaver got less effective 4 - WGTour came up and the season with the progamers 5 - everything got more professional nowadays I remember also that pool was more expensive or less expensive, was a really great deal but my memory lost me here... Also, in the past you could play a progamer just on west without problems, now you will almost not find progamers there anymore, they will practice in practice rooms on lan and stuff only. That is a really big change also, or on iccup high ladder... But not with slayers`boxer anymore or with nal_ra. What about the Gap between Foreigners and Koreans? Do you think it has been slowly increasing or decreasing over the years? It has increased by an incredible amount. In the past I could match good foreigners against semi-pro or full pro korean gamers and then the foreigners would still give a decent match. But nowadays a semi progamer just steam rolls over 99% of the foreigners. It is understandable though since the Korean guys just have more intense practice. They sit in a room with only good players and they are forced to game like 10 hours a day or they will get kicked out of the house. The thing which surprises me the most is that now the whole Korean community is just a lot better in general then the foreigners probably because the average level there got a lot higher and 1 of the factors probably is that they have StarCraft on their tv and such, and I do think a lot of great gamers quit starcraft with the fact a lot of players are getting "busy with life" or don't practice as much anymore as they did before. What are your thoughts on a lot of big tournaments and leagues in SC:BW banning Koreans and Chinese from competing due to skill and/or horrible lag? And what do you think about teams using Koreans to win important clan matches? (Especially where money is involved like in iCCup-CL) It depends. I think the phrase "using Koreans" is not really fair with every clan. The moment you have Korean members in your team who are playing actively with your members and not there for money I don't see a reason to keep them out the clan leagues. People nowadays always directly see a Korean member as a mercenary but in theory a mercenary is someone who doesn't have anything to do with your team and you just pay him to play in clanwars for you so u can win the league. I think that is a really bad way to win a clan league but people should stay a bit more objective about their opinions. Because I now will just take as an example ESC. giving ESC.ret money to play for them their clanwars and "stealing" him this way from ToT, is in my opinion worse then having a "real Korean member" play the cup for you. I always see it like this: when a sponsor from a team isn't there anymore and the team falls apart from it, those teams should not be in a clan league because they are purely based on money, pure mercenaries. About TSL I think it is great they keep the Korean players out and the lagging Chinese players. The Koreans got enough tournaments in their own country and I think this is a great opportunity given by www.TeamLiquid.Net for foreigners to win something with a nice prize! It is more fun for the community also to watch the foreigners and people they know than an unknown Korean or even a known Korean like Stork going 65-0. I want to add 1 more thing about the clan leagues, when you don't pay a Korean it must be for him also fun to play in this clan, so probably the skill level will be not far away from your other top members. So then you don't have the problem that a semi pro or a pro-gamer is owning the foreign community. Progamers will not newb bash everyone 123123-0 for free, because it would only hurt their skills in the long run. For the past 6 years iG. has been home to a huge number of the very best SCBW players from all around the world (like kermiT + myself) and which include a few Pro and semi-pros from Korea. Yet not many accomplishments for team leagues, why is this? In the past there was nothing to win in clan leagues beside pride. And now it is of course still a very small part of what you can win in a clan league if you compare it to singles competition like the upcoming TSL. I think it has to do with the combination of lack of motivation/timezone and Sundays. I think we where able to beat anyone and we did, but we didn't do this on a consistent basis. The only thing we ever took serious was SCCL (which sadly enough was only 1 season) because this was going to be a promising money league, we did really fine, motivation was high, even our semi/full progamers from Korea were showing up in that league even in middle of the night for them (4 am). We also been a clan with many young friends, contrary to what many people think of us gamers, we DO have a personal life and we basically just went all out around to the city every Saturday which causes problems to play on Sunday as well :P It's hard to play on that level hungover. Oh and we didn't have much to prove anyways since we always did so good vs Korean guilds. A certain player from the Brood War squad wants me to ask: "Who is the best player in iG nowadays, and why is it Tarson?" Hehe, I do think it is really map and matchup dependent, but i'm sure Tarson is there somewhere at the top. But based on results KogeT should have the title, he played really consistently in the last few tournaments/clanwars. I still think personally the best TvZ is CleaR, best TvP is Tarson, and best zerg is KogeT. Or KaaZ (if he comesback out of Japan). So ideally, what would iG's top CW Lineup look like? And do you think it can compete against DB, ESC, RoX.KiS, ZZZ, NrT, ToT, and LRM in the upcoming iCCup-CL season? I do think we can compete against any clan, because i've been in StarCraft for 10 years and I basically know by now the style of every gamer in the top clans, I know which builds they do mostly on which maps if we playing a cheesy clan /players or which style they play in. I make a lineup based on the starting map (which favors which race) and the players who we play against since we got about 20 gamers who could compete with all their own specialties. It would be hard to give you names. It really depends on which map/clan. During our last comeback to Division 1 over a year ago we had Target, MOJ, SaJer, MaNa, CleaR, KoS, Sky (WhistleR), Lopata, KaaZ, DrunkenTiger (Lee), KorrZ (DeSka), and Slider for our top. Compared to that team, do you think our current team is stronger and will it last as long? I think our team roster now has more potential because that lineup we used in the past was pretty inactive and some people you named couldn't come to the clanwars. Now we have a roster who can show up. Also 1 year ago I needed to quit BW and I think we got worse in the middle of the league. Since we didn't do that bad in the start... Well I remember Sajer quit BW, Mana went to a payed team and I had no time to back this up. So basically we felt apart exactly in the middle of the league, I think we maybe could have ended Top 3 with that lineup if we didn't... So what are the goals for iG. as a whole, in BW, and yourself for the upcoming year? iG.'s Goal is to build a big community around us, make ourselves stronger in every division, show ourselves all over the world in any competition, & to provide all our gamers the materials and support they deserve. We did prove that we can do without support of big sponsors, just imagine what we could do with big sponsors, so my main goal is to find the right people who want to support our branch and we will prove ourselves worthy! And I am not finished yet with improving our starcraft team as I haven't been back that long to SC:BW and yet we have already improved a lot and with your help and kermit's help I am sure we will end up top 3 in StarCraft again. Besides that I want to finish my studies and bring a beer branch on the market in the upcoming year. And if I get big enough I will support our lans with a special edition of infernal-gamers Beer. Well thank you for your great answers and time? Do you have any last words/shoutouts or whatever you wish to end the interview with? Well of course thanks to our great sponsors Cyber Snipa, LinX Hosting, Kontrol Freek, and Diabolic-Servers and thanks for the interview Zeepie!!! The name I gave you by the way, I would like to say HOllah! to everybody who supports iG. love you guys! Thank you Marck for all your hard work and I do want to name AerO especially because he did also a great job when I was gone and almost nobody knows about him in the community! He brought a lot of good gamers to iG. with KermiT!! Kaaz/ arcneon comeback soon please!!! love ya Original Source: www.MyInfernal.com
