As big as starcraft is to koreans, Music is big as well. What kinds of music do we listen to? We really do listen to all genres but Piano Rock is the most popular. What is Piano Rock? In Korea, we call it ballads, but after doing some research i found out that ballads are similar to Piano Rock. here is an example of a very very recent piano rock korean song: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wX6bg0gpSo4 Yes, to some people, this kind of music is considered gay. But we do listen to a lot of techno and hip-hop songs as well. Here is a still famous and popular dance song http://youtube.com/watch?v=Iovca9PsMI8&feature=related Here is a very famous rap song in 2004: http://youtube.com/watch?v=moeCSpwoqfU&feature=related Koreans love rock too. I lived in Korea for 10 whole years before my family decided to move into America. Of course, I was very sad. No more live Starcraft on TV! Yes, I loved Starcraft when i was not even 10 years old. We all did. All my friends would go to PC Bangs (PC Rooms where you pay $1.40[average] an hour with fast computers] and chill just by playing Starcraft. In recess, we would make small sand castles pretending it is a bunker. On rainy days, we would all try to make a life size bunker but that never happened because of the mean 6th graders! They would always destroy our construction during the middle. Starcraft was not the only thing big in my school. We LOVED soccer. It was the only sport we would play during recess and have a blast. We may seem like cute little 3rd graders but some of us werent that cute. There were always people that would always get into fights. Yes, third graders starting fights. I was not one of them and neither were a majority of my friends. When you walk past high schools, you always see one fight in two days. They are violent fist fights and they both end up with black eyes. In America, there are almost no fights. That's what I like about living in America. It is peaceful, and lovely, but there isnt just enough of starcraft. Korea also have these places where people take a bath in a huge indoor public bath tub. I am not too proud of them. My dad and I would always go into these and take our clothes off. It is separated into sexes so females and males dont take baths together. It is not considered gay in Korea. There is no word that means gay in korean. I never thought it was gay until now. Living 6 years in America, i got used to the american culture. Now i realize how gay it is for 20 guys to get into a hot tub naked. SO GAY. But trust me. Koreans are not gay nor have i ever seen a gay korean. It is just the different culture that we have. Korea also has brilliant tv shows. Besides the starcraft channels, the other channels are so much better than America. Trust me. I enjoy watching American TV too (Especially "Lost"!) but i miss watching Korean comedy shows and soap operas. (If you read every single word of my blog until now, please put "ThnX~~" in comments. I want to see who actually read my long blog. thnx! Now back to the story) Maybe it is because the korean shows are in my native language, but i honestly would choose Korean Television if i had to make a choice. Here's one of the examples of Korean Comedy. This show has reached #1 rating many times. http://youtube.com/watch?v=F8_NAuMgi6Q That's it for now about Korea. I'll write up important current events on South Korea and more lifestyle of South Korea. My next blog will be about Korean's Music Taste. By the way, South Korea elected their new president a month ago and we all HATE him. We made a very big mistake choosing him. Bye! p.s. this was my first blog and this is longer than my english essay. | |||||||||||||||||||
