Woman finds winning lottery ticket in dead husband's things A woman in Connecticut who checked her husband's lottery tickets weeks after his death has discovered he had won a $10 million (£6.9 million) jackpot. Donald Peters, 79, bought two tickets hours before his death from a heart attack on November 1 at a 7-Eleven grocery shop in the town of Danbury. But after the retired hat factory worker's death his wife, Charlotte, checked through his things and took the slips to the shop to check. On Friday she cashed in one of the tickets. "I'm numb," the 78-year-old said at the Connecticut Lottery headquarters. The tickets had been bought for a 10-week stretch, so Mrs Peters was able to put them to one side while she dealt with her husband's things. At first she thought she had won $6 million, but in fact her win was far, far bigger. "I've always wanted a Corvette, but I don't think I'll buy one," she said. "I'll stick to a small car. I might go to Mohegan Sun casino. I'm going to go home and sit and think." The Peters children think their father would have appreciated the irony. Daniel Petric killed mother, shot father because they took Halo 3 video game ELYRIA — Daniel Petric shot his parents -- killing his mother -- because they wouldn't allow him to play the violent video game Halo 3, prosecutors told a judge at the boy's murder trial Monday. The trial, on charges of murder and attempted murder, opened Monday for Petric, 17, of Brighton Township. He is being tried without a jury before Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge. Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty because of Petric's age. In their opening state ments, prosecutors outlined this version of events surrounding the shooting: In September 2007, Daniel, then 16, had sneaked out of his bedroom window to purchase the game at a store against his father's orders. When he returned home, his parents caught him with the game and took it from him. His father, Mark, a minister at New Life Assembly of God in Wellington, put the game in a lockbox in a closet where he also kept a 9mm handgun, according to prosecutors. About a month later, on Oct. 20, 2007, Daniel used his father's key to open the lockbox and remove the gun and the game. The boy shot his parents, killing his mother and gravely wounding his father. As his father lay wounded, Daniel tried to place the gun in his father's hand. Daniel fled after his sister and her husband arrived at the house, taking the Halo 3 game with him. Also on Monday, a tearful Mark Petric testified that his son came up behind him as he sat on the couch and said, "Would you guys close your eyes? I have a surprise for you." Petric, 45, said he "expected a pleasant surprise" and closed his eyes. Then his head went numb. As the blood poured from a bullet wound in his head, he realized his wife, Susan Petric, 43, was lying dead on a nearby loveseat, shot in the head, arms and chest. Petric said his son shoved the gun into his hand saying, "Hey Dad, here's your gun. Take it." Mark Petric broke down on the witness stand as he said he believes he survived the shooting only because his daughter and husband arrived at the house to watch an Indians game. He heard his son telling them they couldn't come inside. "You guys shouldn't come in," Mark Petric recalled his son saying. "Mom and Dad had a big argument." The couple, Heidi and Andrew Archer, testified they heard a moan - possibly their names being groaned - from inside the house, pushed their way in and found the elder Petric wounded and his wife dead. The elder Petric, through his shattered jaw, managed to say his son had shot him, while Daniel tried to blame his father. Heidi Archer called 9-1-1 and then realized that Daniel had picked up the handgun that had been lying on the couch. Her husband took the gun from the boy, who gave it up without resistance. The boy ran out of the house and fled in the family van. He was caught by Wellington police a short time later, the Halo 3 game still on the front seat. Daniel showed little emotion throughout the trial except when his mother's autopsy photos were flashed on a large screen. He bowed his head and stared at his hands for about 20 minutes while the photos were discussed.  Daniel Petric Petric was allowed to visit his son in jail over the past year. He said his son has apologized. "Dad, I'm so sorry for what I did to Mom, to you and to the family," Daniel said, according to his father. "I'm so glad you are alive." "You're my son," Petric responded. "You're my boy." He said his wife and their son had a very close relationship. "He was always her little boy," Petric told the judge. Heidi Archer said the family has forgiven her brother and want him to come home because the family cannot heal until they are all together. Daniel's lawyer, James Kersey, gave a short opening statement. He said his client had been under great stress at the time of the shooting because of a snowboarding accident that resulted in a severe staph infection. It left Daniel with such severe spinal damage that the slightest injury could leave him paralyzed. Daniel was homebound for a year with nothing to do but watch television and play video games, Kersey said. It was during that time that he became fascinated with the Halo series and would play them for hours at friends' houses. For the first time in my life i have been called Terrone! For the first time! It was an Italian here on GG.net, very funny i am gonna show this comment to my father he will be so happy! Here is the comment: I remambar you that Possanzini is one of these south ppl witch they are called "Terroni" (smart people that working fields) lol I am quite tall, i am not born under Tiber and i don't have black hair, how can i be a terrone? It is not possible! Anyway i am not a Terrone and i feel that the word Terrone is very bad, we should not create barriers between us! I would rather be called Polentone! And not Terrone! For you people who don't know what a Terrone is; you don't need to know, it is just an idiotic word. Well quite pointless blog this but i was just forced to to this cuz i have never heard someone call me Terrone T___T...

I am a zero once again. Sir) lost versus x.2) which must be seen as a huge setback for the Korean team. I can't even understand how Sir) lost this battle. I went all in and now with the game ended and so on i question my own decision to going all in on Sir). I had nothing to earn on a all in on Sir), i mean 76% of the bets were on Sir) and my 1559 minerals wouldn't have taken me from the 8th position and up. I was quite unsure during the whole day if i would let it be or if i should delete the bet, however i didn't delete it, which i of course regret now. Why did Sir) loose? So why did  Sir) loose versus  x.2?Well i heard something like Sir) only had three players available for the game when it started and that x.2, which is a team famous for the tactical skills they have, played like Koreans which i am sure shocked the opposition. No day during the year x.2 shall win versus it shouldn't matter how many players Sir) have away. Just 57% believe in JeDi which gives me quite good minerals when the battle is finished and JeDi stands as a winner!

My exhortation to the GG-crew: Please take away the DotA-section on this GG.net. That section is a shame for this site. Take a look there right now, the newest article is from a week ago and it is about a totaly uninteresting subject: "ESL Pro Series Romania 2 Finals" give me a break, who the f*ck cares? There are never any matches to bet on and when there are it is more than 90% risk that the game will be pp:ed or cancelled, is that right? I think it does not give a serious impression at all and this site is so great that i dont want the DotA-section to make it worse. And i mean what kind of game is DotA? It is a game that takes little skill, you can never compare the skill you need for SC or WC, More people can be good DotA-players than WC or SC, why is that? Beacuse you dont need to think fast, you just control one unit and you just klick with your mouse forward and back forward and back... Verry funny to watch... right? Verry hard to control one unit... Yes? Na i doubt it. So please take away the DotA-section... | |||||||||||||||||||
