Strelok and MYM win GosuGamers Awards

GosuGamer of the Year:
1. Strelok 365 (39%)
2. IefNaij 225 (24%)
3. NonY 211 (22%)
4. DinOt 93 (10%)
5. Cloud 46 (5%)

GosuGamer of the Year

Eugin "Strelok" Oparyshev is awarded the GosuGamer of the Year after 38% of the votes.

The sturdy Terran player is most remembered in 2008 as the World Cyber Games bronze medalist. The additional wins in the GameStarLiga, ASUS Spring and the runner-up position at DreamHack Summer shows Strelok was a front runner during the past year.

The 23-year-old from Ukraine signed with MeetYourMakers in January 2008, and remained in the team until its death.

While 2008 was a great year for the "Warship", Strelok's first appearance in 2009 left more to wish for. Being only able to win one out of eight games in PGL, Strelok's ranking skewed downward.

Jian Fei "IefNaij" Wang was close second with 24% of the votes. Despite his win in TeamLiquid StarLeague and impressive runs in team leagues as WGTour Clanleague and iCCup Clanleague, the "God of Reaver" ends as the runner-up. Coming in third, with only 14 points less than the Canadian Protoss was Tyler "NonY" Wasieleski NonY pursued his dream of becoming a progamer in Korea, and went to join up with eSTRO after a successful run in the Spirit tournament as well as a stellar performance in the American qualifier for World Cyber Games.

Team of the Year:
1. MeetYourMakers 450 (49%)
2. Templars of Twilight 237 (26%)
3. RoX-Gaming 170 (18%)
4. NeO roxOr Team 47 (5%)
5. MicroGamerZ 23 (2%)

Team of the Year

The Team of the Year award went to MeetYourMakers with just about half of the votes, 49%, handed to them. Winning every big team league there were to win - iCCup Clanleague, WGTour Clanleague and Brood War Clan League - MeetYourMakers cemented their position as the number one team in the foreign scene.

With high stakes players as White-Ra, Strelok, IefNaij, Dreiven and DinOt MeetYourMakers rowed up win after win. But as the cliche says, all good things must come to an end. On January 29 this year, the MeetYourMakers administration shut down the StarCraft team after strategy and focus changes. GosuGamers sources say that the team will live on in another organization and that they are doing what they can to find it.

Second place went to long time veterans Templars of Twilight. Gaining 237 (26%) of the votes, the dark templars were almost half as voted for as their main rivals. Recently seen winning WGTour's Clan War Tournament, the team's achievements and player efforts were not strong enough to win the crowd's hearts this year.

Korean of the Year:
Stork 295 (32%)
Jaedong 283 (31%)
Flash 221 (24%)
FireBatHero 65 (7%)
July 61 (6%)

Korean of the Year

Winning the Korean of the Year Award is the Protoss Samsung KHAN progamer Song Byung "Stork" Goo. Over the year, KHAN's star player did not only score three silvers and one gold, he also scored loads of new fans. He started the year by ending second in the XNote GOMTV Star Invitational losing to FlaSh. Only six days later, he repeated the grand final loss to FlaSh, but this time in the Bacchus OnGameNet Starleague.

Eventually, in August, Stork managed to qualify for the World Cyber Games after a runner-up position in the Korean preliminaries. Before leaving abroad, the "Dinosaur Toss" was strengthened by a long awaited gold, after winning the Incruit OnGameNet Starleague. In Cologne, Stork continued to place second, choking in the grand final against Luxury.

The voting was tight, as Jaedong was only 12 votes behind. Coming in third was the Korean youngster Flash who in 2008 scored two gold medals.

Effort for the Community

The Effort for the Community award is a special award, where we push forward the fiery souls who make the eSport scene a better place, someone or something that has done good for the community.

Not unexpectedly, for StarCraft, it was the iCCup gaming platform and TeamLiquid StarLeague that ended on the Top 2 spots. With 94 more votes, the Russian-based gaming server ran past the well performed high quality league hosted by TeamLiquid.

Third place went to the English voices of Korea; Nick "Tasteless" Plott and Susan "lilsusie" Kim, who comment the GOMTV leagues. The duo has brought the Korean coverage in the English tongue to the non-Korean community and has given many people joy and entertainment throughout the year.
