'It was excellent'

"The Blizzard World Wide Invitational was excellent", says Testie when we catch up with him in his tourist guide's house after a nice meal. Testie says it was a great and enourmous area for the event and that it went off without a single problem. "Entertainment with celebrities and fun concerts [...] walking right by and sharing a room next to Korean pop stars" tells Testie.

Testie was one of the four non-Koreans in the Blizzard World Wide Invitational, along with Draco, Pj and SEn. They went head to head against NaDa, Nal_rA, Bisu and sAvior in a single elimination tournament. Nick "Testie" Perentesis went up against Kim "Bisu" Taek Yong in a Protoss versus Protoss match. The match ended in a 0-2 loss for Nick. The first game was played on Blitz, where Testie thought his chances were pretty good, until he realized he forgot the dragoon range.

"I just played a straight up game on Blitz that I knew would give me the upper hand. I'd like to how that game would have played out with dragoon range. But regardless. He defeated me easily in game 2 with that art sneaky shuttle", Testie says, and also adds that that if he was playing bad he would have proxy gated Bisu. "And if I were playing good, as I thought I was playing decently in game 1, I'd just play straight up. I do not fear playing straight up against anyone." he adds.

Even though Testie expressed his excitement and how good the tournament was run, he does not think Blizzard should host one next year. "This type of tournament is great because it creates foreign interest though. However, I do not think they should have another one. No non-Korean players except the same faces deserve to go, for they haven't the talent or the drive, nor have they proven themselves in the non-Korean scene," says Testie.
Most people see it as a funny showmatch for the Koreans to totally bash the non-Korean players. Compare it to the WarCraft tournament where the matches are much more even it feels like a real tournament: Will we ever see it at a more even level? Or should Blizzard maybe invite only Koreans, or only non-Koreans?
- It will never get to an even level. Their talent pool is deeper. Their players far more driven. Their practice is far more efficient and draining. They are paid to play. Practicing often 12 hours a day with very little break, and repeating the process. It's not an easy life for many of them. It's hard training for many already extremely talented and bright players. Outside of Korea you have players who work and study. They do not have the time to play over and over vs the best players in the world. We have things to do. Work, study, or whatever else fills our life. If there are any that do play as much as the Koreans, they do not spend their time practicing and focused with a single goal in mind. They play leisurely. Unless the rest of the world got seriously sponsored teams paid enough to actually will the foreigners to practice that hard.
Even if they were enemies on the battleground, Testie and Bisu talked to each other on and off. The Canadian says that his opponent was very nice and friendly. Whether they exchanged Protoss strategies the story leaves untold. And when we asked Testie about the Protoss race in the new StarCraft installment - StarCraft II - he was very timid.
"I am reserving judgement. Few things excite me, I cannot even think of something that excites me." Testie is not sure whether he will play StarCraft 2 or not. He says that he has no plans.

Another thing we get to know is that Testie will be flying straight from Korea to China to take part in the PGL StarCraft tournament. This is because Fraer and Advokate are having visa issues. Another tournament for one of the best players in the non-Korean scene, and another chance to play his best against China's and Korea's top players.
