Today sees the beginning of a new weekly feature, the Replay of the Week, in which we will be taking a new replay (not necessarily an RR) and giving an extensive in-game analysis of it (hopefully a good one!). This will be coming every Wednesday, so be sure to check it out!

Warning - the winner WILL be announced at the end, so if you don't want to know just yet, watch the rep first »here!

The game begins with MyStyle spawning at the 9 o'clock position, and Comet spawning at the 12 o'clock position. Style builds a pylon to the right of his nexus and goes scouting at 8, finding Comet's base on the first attempt while putting up a forge back home, sensing from Comet's lack of pool that a 12 hatch is coming up in his natural. Seeing Comet's pool start building, Style chooses to warp in a cannon before starting his expansion, following it up with a gateway positioned to prevent a ling runby early on. With a fourth hatch in the making, the probe is eventually killed by a pair of lings, with Comet putting up a gas in his natural the moment the probe hasn't got vision of it.

With his overlord sitting right outside Style's base, Comet sends a drone to his second natural to expand with his third hatch after seeing the forge FE. However, sensing a general lack of defence, Style takes his first zealot and sends it on a sightseeing tour into Comet's back natural, distracting some of his lings and using good micro to take out two drones. In the meantime, however, another zealot has been attacking drones in Comet's second natural, given that his lings are far off, and Comet is forced to relay his drones until a sunken at that base completes. In the distraction, Style has warped in a Stargate and started a Citadel, and builds two corsairs. He wipes out the overlord scouting his base, which saw it coming, and two other overlords around the map, and also scouts Comet's spire, and seeing the hydras that were made to fight him off.

With the corsairs out of the way, Comet's spire finishes and he proceeds to hatch a rather large force of mutas. Unfortunately, Style chooses this moment to move out with four goons, some zealots and two templars, and the mutas immediately pick off both temps and terrorise Style's otherwise weak army straight back home again. Some attempts to hit Style further with the mutas failed to produce any results, with an attempt to snipe some templars foiled by an archon warp. With Comet now safely teching to lurkers and taking his third expansion, Style moves out to his second nat with a rather more impressive force than last time.

Comet's army moves to the middle, and tries to sneak up on Style's second nat from below, but is met by a protoss force on the ramp and retreats promptly, heading straight for the top entrance instead. This has some success for both sides, with Comet managing to trap in quite a few units, and doing a lot of damage, although he loses quite a few lings for very little. However, most of Style's zealots are severely injured, and having a rather large force of them that he'd rather keep he backs off.

He gets his revenge in the form of a rather badly-made lurker formation by Comet, which results in absolute disaster when some of Style's templars pay a visit:

Some storms smash down Comet's lurker formation.

Comet is forced to run as far as he can after this, although his hive tech has finished and he has 1-1, he doesn't have enough army to hold off Style's force; that force promptly heads straight for the top right expansions, finding nothing except two drones and is caught off guard by Comet's fledgling army from the top, though that isn't enough to push Style back. However, Style mysteriously retreats in the face of a pack of lings and three lurkers, leaving Comet free to get his defilers out.

Having reinforced his army with some extra templars, Style returns to attack Comet again, and even with his rather larger army Comet has trouble fighting him off:

Lings alone just won't cut it here.

However, some of Comet's hydras hit down both of Style's observers, and he is forced to flee the scene as some lurkers still remain, giving Comet the time he needs to recover once again.

The upgrades for Comet refer to Armour, Melee and Missile weapons, in that order. In Comet's base, a large lurk/ling/defiler army is massing up, but he sends his current army anyway; about ten lurkers, 18 lings and a defiler make their way towards Style's bottom expansion, and meets his army en route. Neither side takes large casualties, with Style backing off after losing a few goons to a plague by Comet's defiler.

In the chaos, Comet's newly hatched army moves out towards the middle, but is intercepted by Style again. This gives Comet the opportunity to flank him, however, and although it seems as though Style should win this fight hands down, the defiler gets several zealots with a plague - and more notably, two templars and seven zealots of Comet's army are sitting out a screen away to the south. As such, his army in the middle is overwhelmed with zerglings and backs off to regroup, taking them down with his reinforced army.

Comet's army gets too ambitious.

Comet has meanwhile taken all three top right expansions (nat, main and 2nd nat), with the hatches almost completed, and is massing zerglings and hydras in huge numbers. Knowing this, Style sends two DTs to try and kill the two o'clock expansion hatch, but only manages to reduce it to 300hp before Comet's lings kill both of them.

At this point, Style has reached the supply limit and meets Comet's army in the middle. Though he initially appears to have won the fight, some good plagues and a dark swarm allow Comet's crackling reinforcements to slaughter most of the remaining plagued protoss army, forcing Style back to his cannons. His situation looks bleak; he has only a handful of templars, two archons and a small group of zealots, and only two of his gateways are producing anything. However, he is making reavers from two robos, and all of his expansions are heavily cannoned, allowing him a little time to regain his strength. With his two reavers and a shuttle, Style begins harassing Comet's expansions and army, and with no real antiair available for Comet except the remaining mutas in his back natural, Style has bought himself some extra time. Unfortunately for him, however, an ultralisk cavern has finished at Comet's 2 o'clock expansion, and it promptly gets to work on the armour upgrade.

Style seemed to be winning...

Comet decides the cannons don't look too friendly, and as such he loads a group of nine overlords with a large ling army with a few lurks and a defiler, sending it off to land at Style's 4 o'clock expansion. Although Style sees it coming and sends a speeded reaver shuttle along to aid his cannons, it turns out not to be enough as the cracklings annihiliate his defenses without much effort, leaving Style little choice but to load up his reavers and abandon his expansion.

Being careful not to lose two expansions, Style unloads his shuttle at his six o'clock base, where he has nearly ten cannons and a templar. Comet has hatched some ultras, and goes on an attack with a ling/ultra army and a defiler towards Style's exp just below the middle, and also sends the remaining army from his 4 o'clock drop towards another exp. Though it seems that Style has a rather puny-looking army at his exp, the archons and reavers he have there somewhat reduce the effectiveness of Comet's defiler, allowing Style to win the fight in both areas.

Both players are accumulating quite a lot of resources, as Style is stuck at the limit, though he is very short of gas with 3k minerals whereas Comet has 2k of both minerals and gas ready to use. With many spare templars lying around and an archon-intensive army, Style sends a shuttle with three HTs to Comet's top right exp and sends his army to the one below it at the same time. Some good storms consume the vast majority of the drones at the 2 o'clock expo, while the 3 o'clock exp is promptly incinerated by Style's reavers and archons.

The templars pay another visit to Comet.

An angry zerg army descends upon him at the ramp, with several ultras and a small ton of lings attacking Style's army of archons and zealots. The zealots are quickly taken out, and a defiler swarms the area, with Comet seemingly dominating the fight. However, the reavers deal some serious damage, eliminating quite a few ultras, with a combined effort from the archons removing the rest and winning the fight. Style immediately loads his reavers and goes towards his six o'clock exp, where Comet is about to drop several ultralisks and some lings. His archons are on the way, as the reavers were sacrificed to buy time, and although Comet took all of the cannons with him, his drop was eventually routed.

Comet attempts to take revenge for his expansions.

Comet however still had a sizeable eight ultras and a lot of cracklings, and with Style reeling from the last attack, sent them straight to the protoss exp below the middle, completely destroying the cannon/reaver/archon resistance and firmly taking down the exp.

Comet gets his revenge the second time round.

At a disadvantage, Comet heads for Style's bottom expansion with his ultra ling army, and the cannons buy Style time as his archon/zeal army arrives. However, Comet goes straight for the nexus, ignoring the protoss legion, but luckily for Style his nexus survives on a measly 75 hp as Comet's army falls.

Style's army heads for Comet's expansion to the right of the middle, but gets caught coming up the ramp by a decent ultra/ling and defiler army. Style wins the fight decisively, with some excellent storms, but many of his zealots get plagued; Comet's exp drones are all killed, but his remaining army mops up Style's plagued zealots very quickly and proceeds to win the rest of the fight as Style backs off with some archons and two reavers. Style had attempted to retake his exp towards the bottom, but it is promptly destroyed by Comet's army straight away, leaving him with only one base left running.

Style gets caught going up the ramp.

However, this doesn't cripple the protoss much, given his reserve minerals, and as such he pumps out another huge zealot/archon army. However, Comet is also suffering, with only two expansions running and very few resources lying around. The two armies eventually meet at the lower ground between their running expansions, with some good plagues eliminating the majority of Style's zealots but the reaver/archon army eliminating some ultras and severely damaging those that remained. Style pulls back and attacks again with an extra group of zealots; critically, one of his storms takes out Comet's defiler, and his other one fails to plague anything more than two archons. With his army superior, Style marches straight into Comet's expansion, and Comet gives up and types out. GG.

The final fight comes to an end as Comet retreats.
