3 Week 4-6:The Rise and Fall
4 Week 7-9:All Good Things Must End
5 The Quarter Finals: Old Rivals
6 The Semi-Finals: Facing Legends
7 In The End...
Things already felt nostalgic on this first night of this tournament, old school KTF Zerg Yellow stepped to the stage with a chance to win a major tournament, something he had not seen for some time. He faced his opponent Asam, a relative unkown, and came away with a somewhat heartening 2-1 win over his foe. Yellow has been outclassed for many years now, though one of the old schoolers and still very much a pro, he really has not been able to compete in OSL or MSL in the past years. This brings rise to another things this tournament offered....

Not only was this a chance for the new guys to shine, but the old schoolers could step into the limelight as well to cheat out another 15 minutes of fame and possibly one last title. Yet another amazing facet of this tournament, another attribute which gave it the gusto to shine through and become one of the most tense and exciting ever. Yellow made a deep run into the tournament, going out in true Yellow fashion to Odin in a depressing 2-0. He went further than alot of the others invited though, such as Nal_Ra and Terran great NaDa (2-0 to Yoon). Whether or not they won they were still exciting to watch, these players are loved legends and even seeing them lose is better than not seeing them at all.

Week One
Lucifer2-0 Wannabe
YellOw2-1 n.die_asam
Effort2-1 ToSsGirL
baby2-0 Robbie

Week one was rather excting with Yellow and the only female Pro Gamer Tossgirl each facing off with relatively unknown names. Though Tossgirl loses the match to Effort, she does manage to win a televised game stunning thousands of fans world wide. Yellow cooly takes his first game and has to make it count in a third but he passes through to the next round.
Week Two
Orion0-2 oDin
Adamas2-0 Raid
8152-1 FanTastic
Yellow2-0 zergjjoa

This week brought one of the more mediocre players named after a mediocre map, 815 is not well known for his skill. He walked out of this round with 2-0 over Raid though and slipped from eliminations grasp once again. While returning favorite Yellow showed much more promise this week walking over his opponent 2-0 and advancing yet again.
Week Three
Oops0-2 Goojila
52Layla0-2 Xellos
Violet2-0 Reach
Chief1-2 sAviOr

This time around we see the ex-Maestro, Old School OSL winner Reach and Xellos playing P? Whatever. This week was rather exciting as slump King Savior managed to defeat his buffer opponent and move on, something he has failed to do recently (even with 3 MSLs under his belt.) Also beloved Protoss warrior and the Manliest Brood War player ever Reach, lost 0-2.... depressing yes but still the tournament must go on.

Now in its finals stages the GOM Intel Classic is really about to take off in terms of high level gameplay. Sp1ralArch1tect gives you a look at whats is past and what is to come.

A highly ingored tournament in both StarCraft communities, forced into the shadows by a dominating force known as KeSPA. This tournament has had its set backs from the beginning, not to mention the contention felt from the aforementioned company has made things much much harder for GOM. Despite the setbacks and despite enemies in high places, this tournament has managed to shine as a refreshing glass of water in a Gatorade world. When your really look at the lineup of Tasteless, old-schoolers, current pros and a chance for the new guys to shine its easy to see why KeSPA turned tail and ran from it, its a good tournament.

Do You Remember...

There was a time when our favorite players where clear for each race, early on you could easily identify Boxer as the big favorite (2001) for the Terran, with Yellow and Garimto on his heels the atmosphere was electric. The crowds would roar as the legends of Brood War would walk down the aisle clothed in ridiculous space garb, which now makes them look regal. Those days have gone and now we have a different kind of excitement, the Flash era of the game. A arguably more boring but just as exciting time for Brood War, but the major drawback is the hill which one must climb to become known now.

The GOM Classic brought fresh air into the Brood War community, showing that players who may have been considered B team are more than able to compete on the highest level when given the opportunity to do so. New players like Shuttle (a.k.a. YoonJoong), Memory and the recent OSL hopeful (TUSHIN FIGHTING!) BackHo have come to the top and the scene looks to have a fresh batch of players. This always happens, but this time it seems so different, this time things are not looking the same this time we get a proxy nydus against the best player in the world, this time we get a fresh look at where Brood War can go.
