I believe that this time of the year is the time with the biggest inactivity. Both big parts of the Crew are on vacation - and so are many of the visitors. I myself has been away for a couple of days and when I saw this big "nothing is happening" face on everybody, I decided to encourage you in these dark days. I've chosen to make an interview with one of Team SWE's top profiles: Daaman[pG]. Enjoy!

Summer is coming to an end, I was just starting to enjoy it, so that's a bad thing!

About the nick now, in my opinion you seem to be unable to decide if it's "daaman" with swedish prenounciation (da-man) or english as referring to "the man" ? which of the prenounciations do you use yourself for example? last time you told me to chose myself~

Uhm, there's no such thing as a swedish version. i told you to choose cause i was really fed up with that kind of questions about my name. i picked it more than 5 years ago, inspired by a cousin of mine who used the same name. it means "the man", i've never thought of how it should be properly pronounced, and i don't care much either. my name has turned out to be just a funny thing, nothing to think too much about.

One thing I've noticed after talking to you a lot is that you have got a lot of comments about map chosing. Tell me the best map, in your opinion, and why!

Best map? that's hard. favorite maps are easier. if by best you mean the most balanced and interesting I think there have been a few over the course of time that's stuck to my memory. Popular pro-gaming maps often don't include alot of elements, which is good though. you can't play maps that are too special over and over. they also need to differ from one another in a league to make it good on the whole.

I like the old game-q maps. I bet it has to do with me usually prefering old stuff, but that's what I do then. an interesting map is definately "glacial epoch" from game-q, but it would never be a good map to play over and over. To name a few favorites, that'd be dire straits, playing 2on2 on it in the good old days, that's actually all i can think of now.

What do you think about the new WCG maps then? The ones recently released by garimto. Better or worse ?

the fact that a former pro-gamer who has sympathies for one certain race made the new versions bad. I don't think they became more balanced either, while maybe some matchups were fixed, even more got messed up though.

So your suggestion to the wcg commité would be to decline them as official maps ?

The old wcg maps weren't perfect, but they were kind of good. I'd like to see them instead of the new ones yupp.

the TvT matchup - hate it or love it?
Daaman
At first, in the dawn of SC, i used to love it =p then for a long period I lost a number of deciding games because of that matchup, and I thought it was the saddest matchup, with pvp and zvz much more fun. Now, i'm starting to like tvt a bit more again, however, still not as fun as pvp especially!

ya, no options, so what if it's easier to play? both players do early gas and spire. none of them can afford to take the chance of putting 200 gas on transport. so the games goes on, both players stack up mutas in their main. maybe someone felt like taking a chance and get some upgrades. nothing happens, the first one to make the move to transport gets a smaller army and most times dies

Are you using any modified hotkeys ?

Yes, changed like for example building marines using the "a" button

I think it's better for this kind of game that all players use the same config. plus I'm fine with the way it is.

What's your average apm ?

I don't know what he means by that. in games i play focused i'm stable over 200, definately at tvz. apm can be very misleading however. I definately know people with slower apm that are faster/more efficient than players with higher apm

Are you a keyboard or a mouse player ?

I use whatever takes up the least time. I combine keyboard and mouse well, just as any player do? to give some more info, I'm a fast typer =P a-z in 1.7 seconds! Believe it!

Are you participating in the latest team liquid tournament by the way ?

I didn't play bw at home in 15 days. Playing again yesterday made me miss the days away from the computer, so I'm in not mood to play at the moment. Maybe I'll start in a while.

Are you using hotkeys for each factory / barrack ?
Daaman
In the early-game i hotkey most of them. later on in the games I have one or few of them hotkeyed, also using that hotkey to jump location and when there, build my units using the mouse to select my buildings (hotkey to build the units..).

I saw Jesse he was producing hydralisks from his hatcherys with both hands, releasing his mouse for a short while and pressing 4-s-h, 5-s-h etc.

Ya that's normal, lots of people do that, especially zergs.

Are you using the FX hotkeys for fast location switching ?
Daaman
No im not, if i wanna jump location i do it using double-click at a normal hotkey.

whats your normal hotkey assignment on the units in an army consiting of marines / medics / tanks / vessels?
Daaman
 I have different for every mix of troups so i'll just tell for the one you mentioned. 1-2 marines, 3 medics , 4tanks+vessel, sometimes changing to only vessels having no hotkeys at tanks. that's a normal mix in tvz i guess.

Do you think there's anything unique with your playing style? Are you what you'd call a regular terran player in playing style?

Used to be alot, very bold and offensive, taking risks... I used to want early-game battles. nowadays i often set up for a good position in late-game. there's also something more unique to my game, can't be put into words, but there is :] I like being odd..
being normal just isn't fun.

Alright. back to the team liquid tournament; one thing a lot of players reacted on were the rules conserning buguses, we could read that using "manner pylon" and "allied mine" isn't allowed

I thought they were expected and correct..

do you agree that "manner pylon" is a bug and should not be used in the game ?

It's definately not a bug, it's about bad mapmaking if anything. I think it's a part of the game but still right to take out of it.

What's your biggest international achievement?
Daaman
I guess nothing beats my 5th place at WCGC 2000. it was very sad to lose the game just before top4 (meaning big prizes and a spot in the historybooks!). It was a good performance nevertheless. i have had troubles winning tournaments lately, so often coming close, 2nd,3rd or 4th, but unlike my former self (years ago) I've become weak when it's time to wrap things up..

Ok over to WCG Sweden. You qualified and lost suprisingly a game against Punisher, but anyway managed to get to the national final quite easy. What are your expectations of the event ? Both your own performance and the event itself?

I heard it will be a big final, it better be since they give away so few spots. i'm not very interested in wcg or any kind of competing now. I hope willet wins it, I doubt I will.

Lots of people have the chance, winning a tournament as you have to do now (only 1 spot) is always hard, even for the best player. if willet keeps his nerves together I think he has the best chance.

Tell me something about Team Liquid, when did you join up and why?
Daaman
I joined because i got close to nazgul, personally and in play. He's also kind of oldschool, wasn't as good at the time but he was around. So we played alot and he got alot of respect for me as a player, asked me to join. I said yes without a doubt, because of him showing some of the best manners any famous player has showed, a true niceguy.

No it didn't, they begged me to join a long time, before and after the joining of team liquid. finally i had enough and joined =p

pro-gaming.de gives you travels to events also, correct?
Daaman
Team liquid is a friend-type-of-clan while pG says to be a "pro-team", giving support to players getting publicity in return.. alot of people have both of those..

How many games, in average, do you play per day?

What are you doing when you are spending your time infront of the computer?
Daaman
A very small part of it goes to being in games, like 10% wouldn't be such a bad guess. mostly chating with friends, taking some time to chat with the fans =P and browsing the same sites again and again.

Which unit is your favourite?

Transport units, although i don't use them nearly as much as before, i wish to use them more.

Have you ever had a model in the BW-Community or somekind of a teacher (friend) to help you improve your playing ? Or are your skills "home made" so to say?
Daaman
I used to really be impressed by swedish oldschool players such as multifaith and straylight. after that i became good myself and really didn't have rolemodels like that any longer. I played alot with [gg99]slayer in the summer of 2000. he was just becoming one of the best players in the world, and playing vs him shaped my game into being a bit better, I believe. he also helped me out to find korean opponents.

Have you ever played any other games except for Brood War? If yes, have you been any good ?

I've been playing consolegames for a long time, and early computergames but if i were to mention all of those it'd take time. some favorites however are twisted metal 2 for playstation and serf (settlers I) for pc.
Later on, aside of bw, I enjoy some quake3 for fun, and also some tetris/winmines =o

Mouse, good old edition of logitech pilot wheelmouse. keyboard, a 5-year-old standard packard bell one.

I have to make that long. Both have theirdownsides of course. lan means offline, which makes it so much better, so lan wins. sleeping at lans suck ass however, but that can be solved neatly i guess. other offline events and get-togethers rule the most!

Micro to me means all type of unitcontrol, while macro is about getting a strong economy/force. that might be different form what others think.

Neither, old concoles are much better.. Playstation had some ok features, but older Nintendo and Sega Mega drive a bit rules it all.
