Sc Killed My Life
Why does Starcraft have to be so fun... ive been playing it on and off (mostly ON) the last 9 years. I sometimes wonder what if I put all that time towards someting else how much more I could have in life..

Probably you'd be frustrated, since you'd probably being study 9 years and now there's a crisis and you can't get job, so you'd start playing now starcraft when everyone owns. :(

SC Was ruining my life too when I was in high school, I was actually trying to get really good in this game and played like 5 hours daily ... I wasn't paying attention to the school .. But I realized that SC is only a video game!! and I was getting good in a game while getting stupid in real life haha.. Then I decided to retire of starcraft and pay more attention to school .. Right now, I'm almost finishing the university and I have a really good job knocking at my door ... Yes, now I'm a "Chobo" in Starcraft ... But I still play when I have the time to do it, and I have a lot of fun ...I feel ok with Real life cause im sure I will Success.

Nowadays to success in real life is easier than do it in Starcraft ... T_T

it's not especially about getting a job, i was wondering the same thing, well i stopped starcraft definitely 3 months ago. I do believe if i did some programming instead that could have been more "productive", or even just learning to play piano or this kind of shit lol, but anyway it's past now, just move on ;) You cannot limit your hobbies or interest to Starcraft all your life anyway.

The main thing is be happy with yourself, don't stop working hard. Everything else falls into place.

its the same for all the good things you like. sc is a game (but what an excellent one!), so you should play it for fun and dont set it highest priority. to find a girl and stay with her may be good solution, but it really depends on you, you have to sort things ih your head. you are still young and nothing is over, this addiction may seem big, but there are way worse things out there in real life you can taste and never let go. good luck

I would of thought the same, as I did spend alot of time playing back in 1999-2002 era, and missed doing massive amounts of homework because of it. However, I got lucky, and decided to enter into the trades. I ended up getting a really good paying job, doing something I love, and can still come home each night and play starcraft!!! So, I have NO REGRETS!

1 thing however, that i have been thinking of lately is, when sc2 comes out and broodwar dies. I have dedicated the last 10yrs to this game, thinking about it everyday since 1998. When its gone, thats a 10year hobby I will be forced to just give up. Im gonna feel pretty empty after a while, and miss not only the game itself, but all of the memories, and good times that were associated with it this past decade.

playing starcraft and other computer games fills a "hole" in your life. if it wouldn't have been starcraft, it'd been some other stuff instead.

i used to think about this too and wonder about how much interesting literature i could've read, or how good i could've been at some instrument with that time invested. but then i realized that it's probably psychological and that i'd done something equally pointless instead. like watching movies or smth.

Its very easy to fall into some sort of addiction. But I agree that its only a video game and RL will always >> vl. Why? DotA, SC, WC3 w/e is always a pleasure to play until you want to become better. Some people evolve into the game faster than some else, its not worth jepordising your life for it.
