The one you feed
One evening an old man told his son about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said: "Son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.

One is evil; it is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, guilt, lies and ego.

The other wolf is good; it is joy, peace, love, serenity, humility, kindness, faith, compassion, truth and hope.

The son asked father: "Which wolf wins?"

The old man replied: "The one you feed".

Moral dualism is naive, and it is essentially a flawed method of thinking. If one must follow the analogy: there is only one wolf within us.

* note this story/fable is attributed to Cherokee Indians. If one reads writings from early meaningful contacts with the Cherokee one should recognize it can not have come from them. I suppose it could be a modern Cherokee story too. It is probably more likely that this fable originated from the early attempts to Christianize them, either entirely foreign to them, or a partial adaptation of one of their own fables to fit the Christian value system.

Very nice. True indeed, the parts of your life you feed or that you allow to grow, thats who you become.

Even though I think you right and I see what you mean #2, nothing is black or white, I don't think this saying is supposed to be 'overanalysed' but rather just brought to our attension.

#5 old habits die hard.. when your a fan of fables and on top of it enjoy reading Sufi writings, analyzing stories is second nature. I also wanted to point something about its origin for two reasons - one - given the nature of blog, it might lead some to believe it sparks from his own mind and - two - the origin of ideas often shed light on the ideas themselves. It might even explains why, a self professed Christian like Mazor, found it appealing enough to share it with us in his blog. It is a blog after all a place to debate and share.

And as far as the claim of me "over analyzing" I will warn you that I did not even go into the depths of the use of the word wolf and its possible symbolisms in Amerindians or European cultures. Anyway, one more spot on the the tiger matters little. It is my nature to over analyze.
