Three Bracelets in Three Years for Matt Matros

Matt Matros, a thirty-five year old professional poker player from New York, became the sixth player in the history of the WSOP to win bracelets in three consecutive years following his victory in event 16, the $1,500 buy-in no limit hold’em six-max.

The event drew 1,604 participants generating a $2,165,400 prize pool with Matros taking home $454,835 and his third gold bracelet for his victory. Matros’s first bracelet came in 2010 in the 624-player $1,500 buy-in limit hold’em event. He followed up in 2011 with a victory in the $2,500 mixed hold’em event.

Matros is not only very accomplished in poker, but in life as well. He has been playing poker seriously since 1999, and has accumulated over $3 million in tournament winnings. He is also a graduate of Yale with a degree in mathematics, and received an M.F.A. from Sarah Lawrence University. When he is not playing poker, Matros is either teaching, or writing. In 2005 he published The Making of a Poker Player, a biography that chronicles his transition from student, to teacher, to professional poker player.
