Andy Bloch Wins First WSOP Bracelet

The big story coming into the final day of play in Event #7, the $1500 Seven Card Stud Event, was whether or not chip leader David Williams could win the event once again as he did in 2006. But other possible story lines were perhaps equally viable. Caroline Hermesh remained in the pack and was poised to become the first women to win an open event since 2008. Also at the table was MIT and Harvard Law graduate Andy Bloch, looking to take his name off the list of the best poker players without a bracelet.

When the final card was dealt, it was Bloch’s story that prevailed. Hermesh, who came into the final table with a short stack was eliminated in 7th and Williams lost his chiplead over the course of four stack crushing hands, eventually busting in 4th.

Bloch Still had his work cut out for him though. Seasoned pro Barry Greenstein was still in the hunt, and after the elimination of Stephen Su in 3rd place, he was all that stood between Bloch and the coveted piece of WSOP hardware. But Bloch held a 4 to 1 chiplead over Greenstein, which he quickly extended to 10 to 1, before eliminating him to take home the bracelet along with $126,363.
