Nordic WCG @ 31 July cancelled

[s]event_wcg[/s]

We are sad to announce that the World Cyber Games qualifier, supposed to be held at Inferno Online on the 30th to 31st of July has been cancelled. Reason being the low partcicipation number and the expensive cost to send a player. Although, we are considering an online qualifier.

Originally, we announced that we opened interest mails for the preliminaries for World Cyber Games 2005 for Sweden Sweden, Denmark Denmark, Norway Norway and Finland Finland. The participation fee was 400 SEK due to the very expensive travel to the WCG Grand Final in Singapore. For that we needed 50 registrations for each country to make it possible to send a player from each country.

A joined preliminary and lowered participation fee

Unfortunately, neither of the four countries filled up the participation quota, which explains why we moved on to having a joined preliminary instead. The 'joined preliminary' meant that all four nations would fight against eachother in one and a same tournament. We also lowered the participation fee to 250 SEK, hoping for more to register. By the end of June 19th [which was the deadline], we only had 55 participants out of 75, meaning we were 20 players short. A couple of days later we received only a few more, meaning we reached around 60.

Nordic WCG offline qualifier cancelled

With 20 players short, and only three weeks left until the event was to take place, we have decided that it is not possible to host the event at that current date. Neither we nor Inferno Online could take the risk of hosting the event if the the money would not be enough, and if enough players would not show up. Therefore;

the Nordic WCG offline qualifier at Inferno Online has been cancelled.

Online preliminary at another date

As of now, we are considering an online preliminary instead, still joined. With an online qualifier instead, more players will most likely be able to take part, as it is much easier to get online than to travel to Stockholm, Sweden. We hope that the online preliminary will work out the best, and that we will get more participants this way. As soon as more is decided with the online preliminary, you will know.
