Germany yet to record victory in HGG

The Group H favorites are not doing so well.

When controversial streamer Mats “P4wnyhof” Kathage was disqualified from Global Games (HGG) and replaced by major champion Jan “SuperJJ” Janssen, Team Germany got close to the on-paper dream team. Even though they were placed in one of two groups of death together with Ukraine, Philippines and the Czech Republic, Germany were expected to strongly contest the top three.

In reality, Germany is yet to get on the scoreboard and the “eagles” are down by a pair after their first appearances in HGG. Their loss versus Ukraine—arguably the second strongest team in the group—in week one was a close one so experts predicted a smoother sailing for anchor Torben “Viper” Wahl and his team-mates from there on, but their second match against the Philippines played just yesterday was an even sourer affair.

The Philippines hailed as the top nation from Southeast Asia, sporting a killer line-up of seasoned tournament veterans, led by three-times GosuCup champion Dustin “WaningMoon” Mangulabnan and certainly proved their worth. WaningMoon opened the series victoriously on his aggro Hunter before Jan “Chalk” Zaldivar doubled the lead after his Quest Warrior stopped the pirates of Adrian “Lifecoach” Koy. Young competitor Cara “CaraCute” Vergel De Dios completed the sweep on Murloc Paladin, leaving Germany dismantled after only a half an hour of play.

This second loss puts Germany in a tough position as they’re yet to play another strong nation in the group, the Czech Republic. With their current record, any defeat by the “underdog” countries on Group H will likely spell elimination for one of HGG’s biggest favorites.
