Overwatch Contenders Season Zero playoff brackets revealed

The teams are in the final stretch for the $50,000 per region grand prize.

With the Group Stages officially over, Overwatch Contenders Season Zero has its Top 8 for both EU and NA. These teams are top sixteen out of the hundreds that competed in the Open Qualifier  for their chance to earn a $50,000 grand prize (per region), a chance to qualify for Overwatch Contenders Season One, and recognition as  the top Overwatch talent in their respective regions.

Most teams are commonplace in the Overwatch scene - eUnited and Laser Kittenz in Europe, Immortals and LG Evil in North America - but there have been a few surprises from both regions.  123 came out ahead of Movistar and the now-disbanded Cyclowns, while a nail-biter of a tiebreaker barely gave Kungarna the go-ahead win against crowd favorites Cloud9.

You can take a look at their compeition in the playoff brackets below:

North American Playoffs

FaZe Clan will have a very hard time right off the bat, taking on the heavy-favorite Immortals in their quarterfinal match. Kungarna faces a difficult task against LG Evil, who did not drop (or draw) a single match in the Group Stage. FNRGFE, made up of former Fnatic, NRG and Gale Force Esports players, will be facing off against a redhot Renegades roster, who finished top of an extremely competitive group. Rounding out the final quarterfinal match is the best of Group A, Team Liquid, and up-and-coming EnVision, who have gone from winning small LANs to a top name in NA Overwatch within the past four months.

European Playoffs

Movistar Riders was consistently strong the entirety of the Group Stages, but they'll have some ground to make up in their quarterfinal match against undefeated eUnited. Neither Team Singularity nor Laser Kittenz had trouble advancing, with only one map win setting LK above Singularity for this matchup. Rest in Pyjamas (formerly Ninjas in Pyjamas) will be taking on the European underdogs 123, a team that seemingly came out of nowhere to earn the top spot in their group. The final quarterfinal match will be Misfits, who only dropped one match to Laser Kittenz, against Bazooka Puppiez, who took out Team Expert and ESPORATI to claim second in Group A, right behind eUnited.

The quarterfinals and semifinals are best-of-fives, while the $50,000 Grand Final for each region will be a best-of-seven. You can check out the VODs and the stream when it goes live 19:00 CEST / 13:00 EST / 10:00 PST right here.

Professional Left Guy Alex "Gillfrost" Gil will be taking up hosting duties once again, along with a casting pool including Erik "Doa" Lonnquist, James "Jamerson" Lee, Jason Kaplan, Christopher "Montecristo" Mykles, Andrew "ZP" Rush and Robert "Hexagrams" Kirkbride.
