May 23rd: Celebrate the Overwatch Anniversary with skins and balance tweaks

The Overwatch Anniversary patch is here. It may be the best event for skins.

A new patch just hit the Overwatch servers, and it's a doozy. A year ago on this day Overwatch came out, and to celebrate that Blizzard has given us a new event. Arguably the best event since the game out, with tons of skins and a fun series of Dance emotes. On top of, some gameplay changes and bug fixes have been ported from PTR.

For full notes you can check the patch notes on Blizzard’s site here.

Cosmetic Changes

The most exciting part of this patch is the new skins that have come out. Sadly there still isn’t a good Zarya skin, but Tracer got another great one. The Genji one is awesome, the Pharah dance is the best emote ever. As well as giving us these great skins, they have also introduced 3 new arena maps and 2 new arena game modes to give you more playing options. Keeping Overwatch fresh. Funky fresh.

This Anniversary event will run until June 12th, so you have a couple of weeks to get the skins you want before you lose your chance. As always, you can consider spending real money on loot boxes in order to increase the odds of getting what you want most.

Gameplay Changes

This patch is loaded with cosmetic updates, but it also brings some gameplay changes that people should aware of.

  • There is a Recoil Recovery Aim Compensation option and it can now be disabled for Ana, Mccree, and Widowmaker. This should make your crosshair move faster if you aim downwards during the recoil recovery window. A very small change, but one that people should know about.
  • Removed the attack delay from Genji's wall climbing ability. This lets him engage enemies immediately after climbing and should make climbing feel better.
  • Hanzo can engage enemies immediately after climbing.
  • Bow charge speed increased by 10% and charged arrows maintain their charge after climbing a wall. As long as you hold the button.
  • Orisa's Fusion Driver primary fire had its damage reduced by 9%, while her protective barrier cooldown is reduced from 12 seconds to 8 seconds
  • Soldier: 76's bullet damage decreased from 20 to 19

These changes aren't huge by any means (except maybe Orisa) but should make the game feel better. Especially Hanzo and Genji should feel smoother if you can make use of their wall climbing tweaks.
