Preview: OGN Apex Week 2

With the first week of Apex behind us, it is time to see what we can expect from this week’s matches. Teams playing include Flash Lux, MVP Space, BK Stars, Rogue, KongDoo Panthera, X6 Gaming, AF Blue, and RGW.

The first week of OGN Apex was full of great, close, matches. If you missed any of the action be sure to watch this video summing it up.

It is time to look towards the future. The upcoming clashes will give high octane gameplay from some of the favourites to win the tournament; including a match that could be very well become the Grand Finals. For stream and game information be sure to check out our Event Hub.

Tuesday

As usual, there are two matches on Tuesday. This week we have Flash Lux taking on MVP Space and BK Stars going against Rhino Gaming Wings.

Group C is arguably the easiest group in Apex Season 3. It has LW Blue, Conbox Spirit, and these two. Realistically you can expect LW Blue and 1 other to make it out of the group. This match could doom the loser to not make it out of groups. Looking at the two teams and it would be fair to assume that MVP Space would take the match.

The past 3 times that these 2 teams have met has gone MVP Space’s way. However, there is a variable that shouldn’t be forgotten. LAN jitters. This is MVP Space’s first time competing on the Apex stage; while they did compete (and do well) during Super Week, which is also LAN, they haven’t competed on a stage this big yet.

That being said, I still think the match will go MVP Space’s way. They have looked really good recently and the past meeting was too one-sided to be overcome. However, if Flash Lux was able to take it then they could make it out of their group and to the playoffs for the first time.

Either way, it will be a close match. MVP Space (60%) - Flash Lux (40%)

Tuesday will be full of close, hard to call games. Sadly they aren’t on the high end in terms of ability. That being said, they should be just as exciting regardless of skill level. And these two aren’t teams that should be underestimated.

BK Stars is a team that has slowly been looking better in recent matches. Their new addition, Carpe, has been doing really well in his DPS role and you should look at BK Stars to take the win. They just play better than RGW recently.

However, don’t expect RGW to get 3-0’d. I expect them to be able to take at least 1 map off of BK Stars. BK Stars (70%) - RGW (30%)

Friday

We have another two matches on Friday. Between Rogue and KongDoo Panthera and X6 Gaming taking on Afreeca Freecs Blue.

A match between behemoths. If Rogue can win this match, they have a great chance of making it out of groups. They beat Mighty AOD last week but now comes their real challenge. And KongDoo Panthera is looking to prove that they are as good as people say they are. Their previous match against Lunatic Hai was painful to watch. KDP underwent a lot of roster changes and it showed. They didn’t have as much chemistry as they should. Lunatic Hai beat them 3-2. If KDP were to lose this match then the group could come down to map scores.

Rogue should be able to prevail if they iron out some of their issues. They need to practice 2 CP maps or they will always drop 1 map to the Koreans; and you can’t win a tournament by playing like that. They won’t be able to best KDP on the 2 CPs no matter how much practice they put in. Rogue will need SoOn to show up the same way that he has recently and will need to continue to dominate on other modes.

If KDP want to keep their playoff hopes up then they need to shut down SoOn’s tracer and find a way to shut down the dive. So far the best answer to dive comps has been to use a damage boosted Widowmaker with a Zen discord orb. Which means that WakaWaka will need to bring his A-game.

Either way, this is the best match of the week and could decide the fate of Group A. Rogue (55%) vs KDP (45%)

This Group B match will determine who gets the #1 spot in Group B. The winner of this will nearly guarantee a playoff berth and give them peace of mind. Predicting who will win this is hard. Both teams played really well in their previous match, but AF Blue went against a sick and exhausted RunAway whereas X6 played against a weakened KongDoo Uncia. Neither opponent was up to par of the other team and both teams stomped.

However, the two are on much more even footing with each other. There isn’t a lot separating the pair; it will come down to individual brilliance to take the match.

X6 Gaming is coming out of Superweek and looking really strong, but because of AF Blue's experience in Apex they should be able to get the win. AF Blue (60%) X6 Gaming (40%)
