Overwatch Pit Championship EU finale recap - Too close for comfort

The long, grueling tournament of Overwatch Pit Championship has come to an end. If you missed the epic finale, here’s a recap for you.

Movistar Riders had already won against eUnited once in the playoffs. But after eUnited’s lower bracket comeback, they were up for revenge in the finale. Movistar Riders has looked solid all throughout this tournament, only losing one game in the group stages for example. eUnited ended their group stage on 4 wins 1 loss, in a group that was too close for comfort for most.

Grand Final; Movistar Riders vs. eUnited - Movistar Riders wins, 3-2

As you can already see from the result, the finale was really close. On the first map of Dorado, eUnited looked really strong, especially on their defense. They won the map going up 1-0 in the series. Next was Nepal, where both teams lined up their triple DPS dive comps. Unfixed on his Soldier played a fairly large role on Nepal. But him and his team did not manage to break Movistar Riders on this map, and lost it 3-2 after many long team fights.

(Great team fight on Nepal.)

Later they went onto Route 66, where again both teams displayed a triple DPS dive comp. This map was insanely close as well, and it all came down to small individual mistakes or successes in order to decide a winner. Finally, Movistar Riders only had to push the cart a few meters in order to take the map. And that’s where they bring out some more unusual picks.

(It’s always fun to see something unusual. Even more so when it wins games.)

The next two maps were eUnited’s pick starting with Lijang Tower. Once again the teams were equals, both in their compositions as well as their skill. After a grueling round of games, eUnited takes that map evening the score 2-2. The deciding map would be King’s Row. There, eUnited looked strong on attack, and had swapped some of their dive comp into a more tank oriented lineup. But as the match unfolded, eUnited’s defense crumbled, giving Movistar Riders the chance to show their full potential. In the end, they outmatch eUnited, winning the finale 3-2.

Congratulations to the Riders for coming from nowhere and setting an incredible result!
