Overwatch Pit Championship Day 1 & 2 Recap - Close calls and upsets

The Group stages of the anticipated Overwatch Pit Championship has just started. The past two days we’ve finally gotten to see some European Overwatch, when Group 1 of 2 kicked off.

Day one, this Thursday, was a taste of things to come. We saw some close games, but what stood out from the first day was the game between Laser Kittenz and Ninjas in Pyjamas. The fairly new Kittenz team managed to upset the European heavy weight team of NiP, taking the series 2-1 after a great showing on Eichenwalde, Oasis and King’s Row.

(A great Tracer-Zarya ultimate combo courtesy of Zappis and Mafu of NiP, during their win on Oasis. Clipped by Kameeleonn.)

But on day two NiP managed to come back a bit stronger. Even if their games versus eUnited were close, they took a 2-0 win and ended the night with one win, one loss in the European Group A. We saw more close games as well. For example, Laser Kittenz versus Ex Tornado Rox went to Lijang Tower for the decider. Even the decider was a close story, but in the end EX-ROX showed a little bit more control and came out victorious.

Underdog Vivi’s Adventure managed to give Gamers Origin a really good fight, first taking a 3-0 in map points on Illios, showing strength when it mattered. Later they took a 4-3 win on King’s Row, after some tight fights and brilliant individual plays from both sides.

(Vivi's Adventure's Henzu on Genji, making sure they cap first point on King's Row, winning the game.)

Overall the general "trend" from the first two days seems to be a lot of Pharah, most of the times even uncontested. A taste of that can be seen in the clip here from the game between Laser Kittenz and EX-ROX on Lijiang Tower. The games from Group A will continue tomorrow, and again, it should be an interesting show. This since all the teams in the group have collected one win and one loss each.

In the meantime, if you are curious about more about the (other) European, or all the North American teams, you can check out this article here.
