Carbon Series Week 5 Recap: LG Evil on top, Team Liquid and LG Loyal eliminated

LG Evil gets their first loss of the Carbon Series from Team Liquid, who is still out of the tournament along with LG Loyal.

The final week of the Carbon Series round robin may be over, but it did not disappoint. LG Evil was served its first loss from Team Liquid, while Orisa made a few appearances. If you missed any of the action, have no fear; we've got the recap of each game from this week below.

Monday, March 20:

LG Loyal vs Immortals - Immortals win, 2-3

LG Loyal looked incredibly strong as they pushed on Eichenwalde; their ultra-dive-composition captured the point in 35 seconds, having killed all six members of Immortals without losing a man themselves. Loyal took the next two maps, but seemed to run out of steam afterwards. Eventually, Immortals bounced back from their initial two-map loss to reverse sweep Loyal, 2-3. Grimreality’s DPS play had a lot to do with the win, with him seemingly waking up on Nepal. His team also stepped up once they were down two maps, specifically Agilities’ Pharah and Roadhog play.

LG Loyal is officially out of Playoff contention.

LG Evil vs Renegades - LG Evil wins, 3-1

LG Evil was 9-0 in the Carbon Series with this win, though Renegades did put up a fight. After getting the initial lead, taking Hollywood in a relatively commanding fashion, LG Evil was able to bounce back and take the next three maps. Rob420 in particular showed finesse with his Ana play, with his Nano Boosts allowing his DPS teammates to clean up Renagdes on multiple occasions. His grenades were the MVP of many fights, helping keep his team healthy while denying healing to the enemy, allowing LG Evil to clean up Renegades nicely and with relatively low amount of trades.

Tuesday, March 21:

Team Liquid vs LG Loyal - Team Liquid wins, 3-1

Although LG Loyal had some heads-up plays at the start of the match, a few big missteps cost them crucial battles and points. Mesr constantly targeted Hidan's support heroes and ID's fantastic Pharah play kept LG Loyal distracted enough for the rest of Liquid to take them down. Unable to fully respond due to Hidan constantly being taken out, Loyal fell to Liquid, 3-1.

Renegades vs compLexity Gaming - compLexity wins, 3-1

Mangachu and NicolasTJO went head to head in this match, with Mangachu having multiple 3-5K plays and NicolasTJO answering back fairly quickly. Eventually, newcomer Reach was able to team up with NicolasTJO and Meza to keep Mangachu at bay in later maps. With Mangachu being controlled, compLexity was able to have the final word.

compLexity's win here has officially knocked Team Liquid out of Playoff contention.

Wednesday, March 22

LG Evil vs Team Liquid - Team Liquid wins, 0-3

This match was a major upset, as LG Evil lost their first match to the second-lowest-ranked team in the tournament. Liquid had a strong opening on the first map, with Dahang's Zenyatta taking out Rob420's Ana within the first ten seconds of the match. With the critical healer out of the fight for LG Evil, Liquid took the point in under a minute. Liquid was able to keep the momentum going to take the next two maps, giving Liquid a clean sweep and LG Evil's first loss of the tournament.

compLexity vs Immortals - Immortals win, 0-3

Immortals took a commanding hold of the first match and never looked back, taking down compLexity easily. Agilities, Hyped and Grimreality were once again the players that couldn't be beaten, with all three setting each other up for major plays that allowed Immortals to shut down compLexity convincingly.

With Week 5 officially over, it will be LG Evil, compLexity, Renegades and Immortals in the playoffs this weekend. Immortals and compLexity will face off first, followed by LG Evil and Renegades.

ZP, Hexagrams and Gillfrost are casting once again, so tune in to Carbon Entertainment's Twitch stream to watch live, starting Saturday, March 25, at 3:00 PM PST/6:00 PM EST/11:00 PM CET.
